somewhere in Sheffield area, I think. I took the photo yesterday, from what we call locally the Lincoln cliff, the B1398, about 8 miles directly north of Lincoln. The view is as near as makes no difference looking directly west, and the hills behind are the Pennines, there being no other hills between us and Sheffield. The picture is very fuzzy cos it is on about 50 or 80 times magnification, but you can make things out. We are looking at a straight line distance of at least 30 miles. What do you think?
Is that the road that starts near Scampton? One of them *could* be something like Sheffield Uni - thats one of the tallest buildings around and on a hill. Possibly it could be something in Donny too - thats kind of in the same direction.
Scoff, no it's definitely not Doncaster. That would be further round to the right. And yes it is the road from Scampton... the back road, not the A15.
Re: These are 'em looking the other way (from the city) More or less confirmed..... thanks to Simon de Montforte I found the Herdings Towers on Google maps, in satelite mode, then simply pressed my right arrow key until it ended up.... quite amazingly, about a quarter of a mile south of where I'd taken my photo. Not bad accuracy, eh. So, Herdings Towers it is !
Rare photo of Herdings, is that. No mattresses or tellies being thrown out of windows. Must have been before 3pm when all crack-heads surface.
Re: These are 'em looking the other way (from the city) Once went out with a bird from near there. That's one of the highest points in Sheffield and those twin towers are the dee-dars equivalent of Hoober Stand i.e. they seem to be on the horizon from wherever you're looking towards Sheffield.
