Smalling, Cleverley, Young, Carrick and Rooney - 5 of our world cup squad!! I wouldn't get on the plane with them
Twas a quality goal, to be fair. But Man Utd have been poor again. Lacking effort/graft/determination. In my opinion. Young, Cleverley, Valencia, Rio, Smalling. All gash. All but one are Englishmen. Three will be representing us in Brazil.
The thought of Wayne Rooney turning out for England in the World Cup is enough to put me off football all together.
Periods of domination always come to an end, they've had over 20 years of it which is pretty good going.
Cleverly won't go. Not unless there's an injury crisis. Gerrard, Carrick, Barkley, Wilshere, Henderson & Lampard are all in front of him. Surely Roy won't take him?
Man Utd's issue is they've spent the last few years relying on a brilliant defence (Evra, Rio & Vidic) & a brilliant strike force (Rooney, RVP). The problem is they've nearly all gone past their peak at the same time & there's not really been proper replacements brought in & blooded. They've tried with Jones & Smalling but Smalling isn't good enough & Jones has suffered from been played all over the place. They've slated the likes of City & Chelsea for spending fortunes over the past 5 years but because United have tried to do things largely on the cheap over the same period they've ended up with a bang average squad. If they want to compete with City & Chelsea they're going to have to spend upwards of £150m or find some absolute steals. They need at least 3 defenders & at least 3 midfielders. The only 6 at the club who are good enough & who will be there next season are De Gea, Jones, Mata, Januzaj, Rooney & RVP & I don't think you can all 3 of Rooney, RVP & Mata together as you won't get the best out of them.
Now that the Spanish and German clubs are ahead of the Premier League ones, I hope the Italians can regain some of their former glory and push them to fourth place in the rankings so they lose a CL place - be great to see the Arab/Russian/Yank 'English' clubs squealing about only getting three spots.
Nothing lasts forever. All clubs go through a slump. Perhaps this is the time when United will experience theirs. Perhaps this season is a minor blip. Unfortunately for them, a lot of the Manchester United fans they've accumulated over the last twenty odd years have known nothing but success. The older ones will be more than aware of the huge gap between winning titles from 1967 to 1993. A relegation to Division 2 during the same time, in 1974, can also be thrown in.
Must agree. Not replaced scholes etc. their present first team is mediocre and the subs are even worse. Fergie knew when to get out
Amazing that late 70s/early 80s side never won the title. I suppose there was just that one better team in the country and Cloughie's lot. In any other era, that team may well have dominated. Bailey, Buchan, McQueen, Macari, Coppell, Hill, the Greenhoff boys, Pearson, Jordan etc...
