If you had to pick a 23 man England squad now..

For the World Cup, who'd you select?

    Hart, Forster, Butland.

Walker, Johnson, Jones, Jagielka, Dawson, Cahill, Baines, Cole.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, Barry, Barkley, Henderson, Wilshere, Lallana, Gerrard, Lennon.

    Sturridge, Lambert, Rooney, Carroll.

I nearly went with Shaw instead of Cole but I think Ashley has always performed well (like Gerrard) in previous tournaments and deserves one last shot. Although Baines would start. And I only went with Butland for his BFC heritage. :) Nearly went with Stones for that reason.

I love Lampard, but it's him or Gerrard for me. And I prefer Barry to Carrick.

The likes of Sterling, Shaw, Ward-Prowse, Hughes, Berahino, Keane, Stones and other kids need to be involved in the Euro qualifiers no matter what happens in Brazil.

Not knocking your effort of a 23 man squad but when we look at our squad options I wouldn't bother getting on the plane out there. Centre halfs are weak, John Terry is still the best we have. Centre Midfield alongside Gerrard is a problem and the strikers, other than the brilliant Sturridge and the dour Rooney we have no one else

No Tom Kennedy at left back?

    Controversial.

I agree John Normanton. It was a real struggle trying to find centre halves. Ended up plumping for Dawson and Jones who I don't rate. Shame that Lescott and Richards rarely figure at City anymore otherwise I'd pick them.

Second rate is all I can say. Oxlade-Chamberlain is probably the only player i'd be excited about seeing if I was going to Brazil. Thankfully, I am not. I wishRooney would retire from international football. But if I had the unenviable task of picking the England line up I would go for:
    4312
    Hart
    Johnson
    Cahill
    Jagielka
    Cole
    Gerrard
    Wilshere
    Lampard
    Oxlade
    Sturridge
    Lambert

    Hart, Forster, Foster

Johnson, Walker, Jagielka, Jones, Lescott, Cahill, Baines, Cole

Gerrard, Carrick, Wilshere, Henderson, Barkley, Sterling, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana

    Sturridge, Rooney, Carroll, Welbeck

I think that's a fairly balanced squad. I was tempted to pick Curtis Davies as I think he's been outstanding this season but it's probably not a good idea to chuck someone into a World Cup who's not had any caps.

    Butland, Davies, Clyne, Gibbs,
Huddlestone, Lennon, Lampard & Lambert would be who I'd look to if we suffered any injuries.

I feel we'll struggle badly as our defence is awful. Only a few years back we had Sol, Rio, Terry, Carragher, King & Woodgate. Any of them would be 1st choice now.

The players you have chosen are in my opinion the players which the newspapers will choose...........and not the players that should actually be going
    Gerrard is too old
Rooney would not start..........we have tried Rooney before in internationals and he is NOT up to the task, his nerves will not and cannot take the pressure. But I'd still have him on the bench

You have missed the Spurs winger out
Players that would not be on the plane would be ................Jagielka.......Barry......Lambert

Woodgate is still immense for Boro now, when he's fit.

Townsend? He doesn't get a game at Spurs. He did well for England last year, granted. I wouldn't grumble if he or Adam Johnson made it. But I prefer Aaron Lennon.

Gerrard is class. Set pieces are crucial for us and his are bang on. He'll definitely go, and start. He'd be captain for me as well.

Rooney is overrated, but he and Sturridge would be lethal if they click.

Jagielka will definitely go. First choice at centre half. He and Cahill have done well for us since we finally got shut of JT and Rio.

Barry is my dark horse. Just think it helps having a leftie in there, and he oozes calm/composure. I think Milner will make it instead though.

Lambert is quality. But I agree, I doubt he'll go. It'll be Sturridge, Rooney, Carroll and Welbeck. I prefer both Carroll and Lambert. I'd even take Crouch before Welbeck.

    What's your 23 then Nudge?

Cole, lampard, jones, Carroll, Henderson, Wiltshire and Lennon would be no where near my 23.

Bit depressing to think that our options are so limited that Andy Carroll might end up in the squad...

Gerrard too old? Behave, who would you take instead of him to play the holding role? Carrick? Huddlestone? Parker? Barry? All are less mobile than Gerrard.

Can you remember that old bloke Pirlo that ran the game against us? He was older 2 years ago than what Gerrard is now. Get Henderson & Wilshere in the middle with him & there's your legs. Plus Gerrard's our captain & is brilliant at set pieces.

Still waiting for these 23 man squads.

DEETEE would have trouble picking his considering he's ruled out seven midfielders. Must be taking Cleverley and Milner.
