How the hell have we (the club) not done something to honour this man? Surely one of the stands could be given his name? He is a rarity in football, especially these days.
Re: So let's get this right.... A modern day sportsperson gets a knighthood/ made a 'dame' for doing basically what he/she is is paid a fortune to do but the likes of MR Rimmington who has given a lifetime of service to the club and sport he loves for not much financial gain is totally overlooked in the awards system. Whilst I (and probably he) don't hold much stock in them, it would be nice for him to get some real recognition whilst he is still here to enjoy it!
Re: How the hell have we (the club) not done something to honour this man? Just finished reading the article and I was about to post the same thing. So many other clubs name stands after former loyal servants or great players yet we never have - wonder why? Surely it wouldn't take much to put his name up on the East Stand while he is still with us. What better statement could they make to say thanks to someone who has been with the club for so long. I know the cynical would say that he has "just" had long term employment with BFC but it is more than that. He clearly loves the club and is part of its very fabric. Do it now Barnsley - no point leaving it until next year, or the year after. Just do it.....
Re: So let's get this right.... totally agree... sadly Cameron or Milly**** don't give a **** about real people
Good ol' Rimmo. Agree with above about naming a stand after him. Stop fannying about BFC and get it done so he can see for himself that he means as much to the club as the club does to him.
Start a on line petition, to get the North Stand renamed The Rimo End, whitey is a member on most football forums and twitbook and all that ***** so he could ask other fans to sign up for us just put this link up and a few of the YouTube vids and we'd piss 5,000 votes by this time next week then take it to the club
Why is it written in such a patronising way? No journalist would write David Cameron's style of speech as: "Ears, I horv taken the Coneservative Party back to its fandamental principles." So why write things like: "In the end I says to wife...." when it's Norman Rimmington?
Plus to be honest if we do a petition he'll realise just how much he means to the fans and that it's the paying putters that want it for him
It's the way he speaks so I suppose Mr Dirs was just writing it how he heard it. It does sound a bit patronising but then this is the BBC. If he could have added some Hovis advert music as background music and added a couple of shots of back streets and pit head winding gear I'm sure he would have done
Is it patronising or are they just trying to portray his thick Barnsley accent? They refer to it in the piece. I'm sure he'd be happy with that tbh.
He's one of the better sports journo's on bbc IMO, does some decent articles, boxing normally. Quality name too, Ben Dirs.
Facking hell you've seen my attempts at writing ant ya, around 60 words in the post you've just quoted and I bet 20% where spelt wrong And I didn't use any of these little b,astards ,.'•! Ether If you don't use them nobody will sign up because they'll spend their time telling me I should have used ,.'!,"" instead
Someone could knock an online petition up in minutes, share it on here, and then everybody on here shares it on their twitter/facebook accounts and spams BFC with it as well. Simple as.
No. I'm all for Rimmo getting something named in his honour, the West Stand would be my choice. But this isn't my idea. Let Nightmare do it.
