A Barnsley fan rang in to say he was at the side of supporters giving abuse. He said Dawson came over with his arms held out as though he was appologising but when he turned to walk away he was he was given more abuse which the caller called absolutely vile. This man sounded quite upset as he was with his wife and daughter and when his wife told these fellas they were out of order she two was verbally abused by these people. This man has rang Oakwell and gave his version of events.Quite sad really.

It was going on behind me all second half with some low lifes shouting non stop abuse. Can't stand being near people like this. Wonder sometimes why I keep going. 52 years and counting and most of them while exiled. Starting to wonder why I bother sharing my Saturday afternoons near people who have no idea how to behave

You don't know what his definition of the word "vile" is though.

It's awful how some of these half wits behave, their language and general behaviour is appalling. Wouldn't dream of taking my wife and children to away games.

And some will still blame Dawson. I would have thought the abuse had to be vile and probably very personal for him to react like he did.

Probably the same as most decent fans.

Some people would consider "useless lovely person" vile while for many it's acceptable language. I'm not saying whether it is acceptable or not but everyone has different ideas of what is acceptable. I bet you'd never use a word like "w**k" in front of your Mother but wouldn't give it a second thought at Oakwell.

I know what you mean CT, it wasn't a dig at you. I think most people know what is acceptable language and even at football there is a line. Personally I would never use the 'c' word even at football.

Not condoning what went off by any means but the caller also said he had never heard language like it in his life. "Really " and he's a football fan I find that very hard to believe tbh sounds like he was exaggerating a point imo which makes the statement a tad dubious imo

Sad if the low life drive people like you away, instead of the former being rooted out.

I've just been unlucky enough to be near the pond life at both Donny and. Huddersfield. My only two away games this season. Hard to move away from it when there is a big crowd. Near half way line ESL is ok generally. I'm not being over sensitive and will certainly not let these people drive me away from a club I have been watching since 1962. Not even having to watch Fourth Division football again would do that

Behaviour like this is really limiting my away days too.

Get a grip you halfwits, you complain about fans abusing players in front of women and children well I'm sorry it's part of football. I'm not for one second saying children and women shouldn't be aloud in football but you have to realise when emotions are high and people have paid a considerable amount of money then abuse is inevitable. Why is Dawson and co coming over to the fans? I understand he was trying to apologise for the performance but they should know they were only going to get abuse. They should of quickly clapped the fans off gone back to the changing room then made a statement via the official website and none of this would of happened. I'm coming up Saturday and if I don't think the players are putting it in then I'll vent my frustration through abuse, and that's not because I'm an inconsiderate person or not aware of the people around me. will be because I will be paying in the excess of £80 to come and watch the team I love (yes I don't go much) but I quite like it when our backs are against the wall and it's fight time.

Great....here comes another one! Don't call me a half wit by the way - I'm in possession of all of them as far as I know.

I've spent most of my adult life trekking up and down the country, and sometimes from overseas, just to watch my football team but I never once considered it my right to abuse footballers, no matter how badly they play. Of course I shout criticism now and then but it never amounts to personal and vile abuse which presumably is what Stephen Dawson got on Saturday. There is no excuse for that, none.

Okay maybe half wits is a bit strong but some of the comments on this thread are cringeworthy and is why our lot laugh at the dedicated melty BBS contingent. But lets make this clear I am not condoning personal abuse, but abuse does and will forever happen at football, so just deal with it for gods sake. I like to come on here every so often to voice my opinion, yes it's probably not appreciated by some but I'm an educated young man who's followed Barnsley for years, so I'm entitled to my opinion. I'm not attacking anyone individually in this btw but come on.

The whole point being made on this thread by the majority is talking about personal abuse, and you've gone and done it you hypocritical so and so. Go and watch rugby I think it would be more suited for a lot of you
