Kobe Bryant, arguably the most recognisable basketball player in the NBA, picks up 10.3 percent of the Los Angeles Lakers' annual revenue, with a $27.9 million salary, per Forbes. That works out at about 37 percent of the team's overall payroll. Yet Rooney collects just 3 percent of Man United's annual revenue and about 8.5 percent of the club's payroll, according to Nick Harris of Sporting Intelligence.

    Very interesting

Meanwhile, in the real world, people are starving to death.

While broadcast revenue has increased more than five-fold in the last five years, the weekly wage of the average Premier League player has only increased from £27,983 (according to Nick Harris of Sporting Intelligence) to around £30,000 (as per Sky News) in that time. The rate of inflation hasn't quite correlated commercial revenue with what the best players are being paid.

It's difficult to comprehend the spike in wages football has experienced in the past five years or so. But players will continue to be paid more and more while there's a precedent for it. Rooney may even look back at his £300,000-a-week contract and wonder why he didn't ask for more.

Interesting to see that when people say about players wages going up it's BS in real terms and they aren't going up when people look at sector revenue.

Poor buggers. Let's have a whip round and see if we can send them a bit of cash. I'd hate to see them starve.

English association football was invented to be enjoyed by local communities to watch their local club, no profits were ever meant to be made, the money was meant to go back into the local club - fast forward to the greed of today and the gullable prats like you who seem to think these people deserve their inflated salaries! I would love the football league to stand up to the Premier League and split from them, go back to playing for the history and tradition of the club they sign for rather than whoever gives them the most money

It's actually not Greed when you look at the figures, especially not the players. He gets 3% of MU revenue. He might put in 10% as hes sold more Shirts with is name on than ANYONE in the last 20 years.

So that comparison makes it all OK does it? Do you ever think your point through? You really should try to live in the real world, it might just open your eyes and make you realise that the wages in sport are perverse, obscene and completely disproportionate to any measure you care to use.

Beckham, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo x2, Zidane, Figo, Raul - I would guess they have sold more than him in last 20 years

Highest player shirts sold in the premier league over the last 20 years and he's not even anywhere close to finishing.

The striker has sold more shirts than any other Premier League player in the last 20 years, per BBC Sport—more than Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Cristiano Ronaldo and Frank Lampard.

Yes it is greed, every fibre of football has been consumed by greed. And it is all proportionate too, the cost of everything to do with football are so high because of the costs now associated with the game.

What experience of wages do you have?

Under your logic you should not be allowed to debate this.
