No of course not. I'm just pointing out that people saying only those alive at the time can voice an opinion is ludicrous

It is ludicrous and I agree with you. I was just wondering how may folk differentiate between the two ?

The vast majority of Germans are embarrassed and deeply regret that part of their history. Sadly the Notts miners and their descendants have never shown guilt or remorse for the destruction of an industry.

I wasn't alive in the Second World War but I know what the Germans and Japanese did - so why shouldn't a 16 year old know about the role Nottingham has played within industrial history?

And Nottingham was known as the SCAB county long before the 1984 miners strike

it was mainly because of the majority of notts miners scabbing that you didn't get the chance to work in the pit, those scabs didn't give a flying **** about the pits that were earmarked for closure because thatcher and the coal board assured them their pits were safe, they were even paid extra money to work, which was something they bragged about.
however,i must point out that there were some miners in notts that were victimised and sacked for being on strike, these men were in a massive minority and deserve the utmost repect.
I worked at cortonwood so maybe i'll know your uncle Matt.
its thirty years ago this week just gone since the strike started, the fixture list couldn't have been any more poignant.

irrespective of your views right or wrong, if you were an opposition fan visiting a ground where you knew you had got a built n opportunity to wind up the home fans you would wouldn't you?
they are just taking the piss ad watching Barnsley fans get annoyed just amuses them more.
Like say it doesn't mean they have an opinion one way or another so IMHO the sab chants just play into heir hand and are a distraction from encouraging the team

Aye all those stolen futures that's the point isn't it. You just need to look round our decimated pit villages to see the affects. Never forgive never forget. image.jpg

notts have a history of being back stabbing scabbing bast@rds,many of them worked during the 1926 general strike, during the 1972 and 1974 strikes some of their pits turned coal and then after the dispute was won they got the pay rise that the rest had been on strike for, they went against a national ballot on incentive pay,so in actual fact 1984-85 wasn't an isolated incident,as you say never forgive, never forget. The strike defeat of 1984-85 paved the way for the attack on welfare and other public sector reforms that are happening now practically unchallenged because the tuc no longer has any power.

I can tell you that there will be miners in the nott's crowd who were on strike the full twelve months and they love it coming to Barnsley, Sunderland and Cardiff etc because they know the scabs amongst them really hate the chanting.
The scab chanting nowadays imo is more about baiting the opposition fans rather than the happenings of the actual event no doubt they will be chanting you'll never work again etc. Just as the Wendy fans chant dingles and we chant dee dar in return. So to all the posters getting on their high horses condemning and and categorising individuals as chavs etc. Its a fekin football chant get over it ffs I'd rater that than the ripper songs*etc but most are scabby b@stds
