Are you left or right wing? (my first political thread ever)

Is the above correct? Is that a fair summary?

And are the Lib Dems in the middle, therefore, the best/worst of both ideals?

I don't really do politics. Gives me brain ache. But a lot of my family love it, and so I grew up on tales of Thatcher, the Tories, how evil they were and how great Labour are. Which is strange, because I found things under the last Labour government to be quite *****. Racking up debts, invading countries and basically being the USA's bullied friend. The fact that Blair is now a ******* absolute minted individual doesn't sit well with me. Things can only get better they said? Aye, for them.
So I'm still not sure I'm a Labour voter, like my family. I voted for them last time, though. I know a lovely person when I see one, and Cameron is exactly that. And whilst I quite liked Clegg's spin during the last election I wasn't convinced his party really stood for owt. Turns out I was right not to vote for those two. But would we be better off now if Labour had retained power?

I will probably vote for em again next time. But I have to say, I can't take to this Milliband bloke.

But in answer to my own question, I'm definitely a leftie. Quite far left, actually, in my opinions/views.

So, anyone care to answer the question and hopefully educate me a little on politics? Preferably, I'd like to read someone telling me why Labour/Tories should be in power etc. Be nice to get both sides.

This thread was inspired by me getting home to learn of Tony Benn's passing. One of r old boys favourites, used to tell me tales about him years ago, when I didn't really listen if I'm honest. I was too interested in playing Chase HQ on the Amiga, playing football, setting fires, fingering girls and generally being a little basterd.
But Tony sounded like my kind of politician. Do we have any like him in the current Labour party?

For me it's a case of old labour ......viva le revolution or words to that effect

Labour these days is so much removed from what it used to stand for.............clause 4 anyone?

Sometimes you really can't put a *** paper between the parties

Anyone who does not share the mainstream views are relly vilified by the press.......I could say let's take the press into national ownership - but it already is (well by the tories that is)

Beauty of democracy I suppose. Whoever gets in power, they'll always have opposition. I seriously consider myself left wing, I cant abide the dodgy ****s in power at the minute. If I was to vote, id go with labour, despite their faults they have a little thing called compassion. Unlike Dave and his goons

One thing I hate about modern life is the idea that all politicians and politics are the same. The right wings press spreads this cynicism to stop people thinking. The current governments bullying of the vulnerable and disabled shows that up to be a myth. Mostly I'm an anarchist with a dash of old school Labour myself.

The best thing that could happen to this country is to make voting compulsory with massive stringently enforced fines for not doing so. Obviously there would have to be an option that stated none of the above but would help to counterbalance some of the cynicism. [

I once did one of them online assessments. And came out slightly off centre. Can't remember if it was to the left or right. If I had to guess I think it was slightly to the left. That was 5 years ago mind so it may have swung one way or another since.

Thing is its not exactly great to chuck someone firmly left or right. Cos when you see some of the policies anyone in government comes out with they are designed mostly to keep them in power rather than deal with what actually matters.

    Short termism. Much like bfc.

Centrist but with leanings towards the left and libertarianism.

That's not what the political compass test said, try it and I bet you are the one who who come out as right-wing and authoritarian, just like that other "lefty" Ed Miliband.

The authoritarianism of the Labour Party is why I hate them.

The irony of you campaigning endlessly about a certain poster's rights (minus the facts), and then presuming to know, more than Gloria stitts where his or her politics lie ...... Brilliant.

I think there's a tendency on this site, maybe in Barnsley in general, to see everything in terms of black and white, as seen on the many mining threads.
