Are lass just looked at me gone out and called me weird, when she realised that what I was calling 'the feast', she called 'the fair'. Got me wondering if it was just me.

    So....feast, or fair??

"Feast" was something before my time ... e.g. "Poggy Feast" - a big community celebration in Pogmoor which included a fayre?

I came across this when I moved from Chapletown to Hoyland Common when I was 10.

    atha gooin t'feast..??

I had no idea what they were on about and still find it difficult to comprehend the differences in the colloquialisms considering the places are only 3 miles apart.

Barnsley feast week was when the markets were replaced with a fun fair. As a kid we called it the feast.

Was always feast to me until I moved here and people didn't know what I meant. I occasionally slip up and accidentally refer to it that way at times.

When I was a kid it was always Hoyland feast on the town hall field. The fact that it was always Tuby's fair that turned up, used to confuse the crap out of me.

A feast is a fair on the feast day of the patron saint of the local church. So if it's on BFC's car park, it's a fair unless it is the feast of St Mary.
