£325 for a season ticket in the ESL this year has turned out to be wretched value in entertainment terms. Anyone who is not a dreamer now knows we will be playing in League One next season. In recognition that we have been short-changed, and in order to secure continuing support, ST prices ought to be pitched at £250 next year for existing ST holders, both to recompense for this season, and to recognise that the club are selling an inferior product (League One football). 6,000 ST's at £250 would actually bring in more revenue than 4,000 at £325. I'm quite sure that you will have done more sophisticated forecasts and calculations than this - but the principle holds good. If the club can do this, and retain Danny Wilson (or recruit someone of equal or better standing/experience) to totally rebuild a squad capable of competing in League One (this one isn't) then I'm in. Same prices (or more expensive) and a 'cheap option' for manager, then I'm out. It's as simple as that. Others may agree or disagree.
Isn't this gambling with the future of the club, assuming we do go down? We may get more takers at a cheaper price and therefore more revenue but the chances are we won't. You also didn't factor in all the free season tickets, OAPs, young persons season ticket, student etc etc that don't pay full price anyway. We have a LOT of these. We'll be £5m quid a season lighter due to the TV money we don't get from the football league so really will have to live on the season ticket/ gate and commercial revenue that we generate to pay for the players wages etc. As I understand it, this would puts us somewhere around the bottom 8 of League one clubs in terms of players wages. What happens if your gamble goes wrong? To be competitive next season, the reality is, we need more money from season tickets and gates unless Patrick puts yet more money into the club to try and get us straight back up. Even if the club were to hold season tickets at this years current price we would still be pretty competitive price wise in League one. £14ish a game.
Gally, with great respect, what sort of gamble would it be to keep ST's at the Championship price? Do you honestly see every present ST holder renewing at the same price after such a shambolic season? As I say in the post, Ben will no doubt have far more sophisticated forecasts to consider, but a 'head in the sand' mentality isn't going to do it for the club. Better to keep up the interest among fans and keep them in the habit of going to Oakwell. I'll not be there for the same money, or if Micky M (for all his good points) gets the manager's job.
its not well done , its about supporting your team/club/town If it was about the managers / players I would have stopped going when john mcsevenny was in charge Dont go , its your choice , but please spare us from the moaning & groaning .
Sorry but if prices are the same and we are in league 1, then i will not be renewing. I would consider it if prices are lowered, it is league 1 afterall....
I have had one since the same year. I worked in Oman, Nigeria, Iran, Kuwait, Venezuela and France since that first purchase. If I saw the team five times a season until 1990 it would be the exception. But I put my money towards the club I have supported from a 7 year old in 1950. My choice, I know. However I support the club through thick and thin, and League One is nowhere near, being bottom of the Fourth Division with little hope and extinction on the horizon. To be honest I thought we would follow Accrington Stanley into oblivion.
John Dennis when he was Chairman once argued that we wouldn't get reduced ST prices on relegation because we would be seeing more games at Oakwell when we went down.
