Been reading posts a bit so decided to have a go. (Was gonna put have a bash or take plunge but that's opening me up to some stick) I've been a reds fan since 70s but don't get to as many games as I'd like to. (Finances = wife kids etc) without covering old posts... What's the scouting network like at Oakwell? Who suggested De Zeeuw to Oakwell think defence is crying out for a player like him. Must be someone scouting east Europe countries for the next Vidic

The only scouts barnsley use belong to the 1st Barnsley pack and stand outside the tunnel waving flags

Not sure whether we even have them any more - I think they rely on Youtube and agents sending videos. I've watched schoolboy games around Barnsley and seen scouts from both Sheffield clubs, Forest and Huddersfield but not Barnsley. In the old days we had scouts up in Scotland and over in Irleand, hence the signings of Danny Blanchflower, Jock Steele, Jimmy Baxter, Alistair Millar, Eddie O'Hara, Tommy Ring. We also used to sign the odd gem from non-league football - Mick Butler & Mick McCarthy from Worsbrough Bridge, Anto Otulakowski from Dewsbury area, Martin Bullock from Eastwood Town and Darren Sheridan to name a few.

Pretty sure we used to have a scout based in Rochdale, but not sure what happened to him.

Someone must've gone to darkest corners of Peru to sign Miguel Mostto?

It was a toss up between him and Paddington Bear. Paddington demanded too much marmalade so we went for Mostto.

Hey oop think the scouting system got dismantled after administration and was on the decline before as not to put too fine a point on it they died and were never replaced.
