his goal record for us was pretty decent and he had a right shot on him, we haven't got anyone who consistently threatens to score a goal. Cogba would have been a great foil for him.
I rated Davies. His control was poor when he arrived, but he worked on it and continued improving right up to and including that Birmingham game. Scored some great goals in that time too. Unfortunately, what he did in that Birmingham game went to his head, he believed he was better than he was and from that point on decided his future lay elsewhere. That's OK I suppose, everyone should have ambition, but Davies stopped putting in the effort and for the last month or two he was neither use nor ornament. Shame, I thought he was better than that. I wasn't a fan of Hill, but I thought he handled Davies really well. If Davies had owt about him he would have continued listening to the manager who had helped improve his game so much, which allowed him the chance to earn a big money move. Instead, he let him down in those final few weeks and played a part in Hill getting the sack.
I've seen better BFC performances than that last season. Hull springs to mind and certainly Leeds. Don't get me wrong, that 5-0 thumping of Brum was great to see, and could have been more than just the five. But yes, the two performances I've stated were better for me. Not as many goals, but totally dicked opposition that were supposedly much greater than us. And the '7-1' Huddersfield thrashing was as good as it gets, but there have been loads of games since that I'd rate as better than the Brum victory. The Brum spanking in 2000, in the playoffs. The Chelsea/Liverpool games in the cup. Blackburn getting smashed 5-1 at Oakwell back when they were still rich and had an amazing squad. Beating Wednesday 3-0 the year we went down. Loads of games. I could go on. But I won't. You aren't doing yourself favours in your attempts to convince us you're a BFC supporter, by the way. No proper reds fan would get the scoreline of that game wrong. Delroy Facey.
Scored 1 goal every 3 games for us, including subs appearances. Aye, he's ****. Have him back in a shot.
We improved no end once he went & Harewood initially & then O'Grady took over his role. He's back at his level of football. I'd be shocked if he ever got back to been a regular at a championship club.
Thing is, I remember folk saying "best centre forward since Shipperley" when Davies was banging the goals in. The same remark folk made about O'Grady when he was in form earlier this season. Then COG went a few games without scoring, was injured, and rumours of him moving led to folk then saying he's overrated and not worth £1m etc. In other words, fans are fickle. Craig Davies saw the money, a bigger club and took the opportunity. It didn't work out for him. But I'm not going to focus on his final 10 games for us and forget the myriad great performances and fantastic goals he scored. He was - in my opinion - one of the best strikers we've had down at Oakwell in the last decade. Easily. I prefer O'Grady though.
I agree with you on this. A lot of fans are fickle. I was never a fan of Davies though, even when he was scoring goals of a championship standard I felt his all round game was of a league 1 / 2 standard & wasn't surprised he didn't last at Bolton. As you say you can't blame him for going though, he was never going to get another chance to move to a club with the financial clout of Bolton so he had to go. It's annoyed me seeing some of the stick O'Grady's got on here. He's only struggled because he's had no service, I personally don't think he's playing significantly poorer than at any other time this season.
I know what you're getting at with that. But he was a lower league player that Keith tried to develop. I think Keith succeeded. As for Davies, I do agree with the suggestion that the third tier, perhaps bottom end of the second tier is about his level.
