    Yes he made me a cup of tea and we spoke abart the owd days..........ex NUM branch president sat in the UDM offices talking to the last of the UDM officials abart the owd days - how ironic is that

    I didn't have to tell him that they had got it wrong - all the Nottinghamshire miners that enjoyed their job will realise that now.
    But then again, we all got it wrong...........there were no winners during the miners strike........only losers

    I stood on the stage where the NUM leaders and then the UDM leaders had given their speeches - its a sort of soviet block 1960s building but it still has history

    There definitely were winners nudge, all thatchers advisers clients (boardroom utility governors) are raking it in.
    No winners among working classes mind, if thats what you meant

    no winners amongst the miners, I mean non of us ended up with a detatched bungalow in one of the poshest areas of barrnsley, rent free flat in London and wages for life

    Take it you mean Scargill? He wasn't a miner he was the NATIONAL PRESIDENT of THE NUM.so easy for you to have a snipe quoting the Tory press campaign. If he had been a Tory equivalent he would be living in a six bedroom mansion in Surrey.

    And why not have a better pad than his previous bungalow ( across from former cutting edge pub ) we all like to better ourselves don't we you muppet .

    am I wrong, I know people that lost their houses not upgraded them, I'm not saying he was wrong in what he said but jeez what a bad leader, he fell for every trap that was set for him, and who were the people that suffered ? not him

    jedi,I'm not sure sure how you say he fell for the trap.we the rank and file called the strike,not scargill,if we hadn't have done they'd have shut our pit there and then.what was scargill supposed to do? tell us all to get back to work and **** the pit,everybody would have said he didn't give a toss if he'd gone down that route.
    the udm are what caused that strike to fail,not scargill.

    There are a lot of people you could ? About monies made during strike especially people who were specifically contacted to return to work by the board.
    gretrex made a great deal of money in a very short time
    Don't you worry about Scargill, as as been mentioned in other posts the police, lawyers, gov't, secret service with all their powers will ave examined scargill s accounts and everything else they could try to pin on him and with all these resources and money they have not been Able to find anything solid on him only try to blacken his name with false accusations with the Tory Media barons . Unlike his accusers who have been found our lie Gretrex the police and even Thatcher and her gov't are now being scruscrutinized.

    I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying that he was far from blameless and it was the guys on the picket lines whos families were going to soup kitchens to get fed that suffered while hes banging on about tories this and tories that ( and rightly so) and he upgrades to a detached bungalow in silkstone, don't look good does it ? all I'm trying to say is he could have gone about things in a far better way than he did, and is still doing

    Think it was a security measure to be honest. As at the time the hate campaign orchestrated by the hostile media were drumming up such hatred towards him that he was advised to tighten security which his current home could not offer.

    Which by the way I can understand as his house was only a few hundred yards from where I live and anyone could have quite easily infiltrated his home.
