Not because I wanted them to stay or I thought they were doing a good job but because it should have happened before Christmas when Wilson signed on as manager. Why did he not get his own men in then?
To late I think we've left ourselves a mountain to climb and I can't help but think we are looking to building a coaching team to get us out of league 1.
Or maybe Danny thought... mmmmmm 4 points from MMs 3 games! If we'd have that from game one DW probably wouldn't be here anyway!
Just playing devils advocate really. I do think the DW appointment did happen overnight as he's eluded to. No way in that time could he get together a backroom! It must be hard enough starting anyway. Not knowing any players, habits, rituals, problem causers etc. But to do it alone must be impossible with no g'tee when he'd get 'his men'. Now it's happened I just hope it doesn't drag on weeks before he's joined by 'his team'. I'm thinking it's a done deal no matter what the club might say.
So do I and I hope whoever we do get gives these players the kick up the arse they need to start playing like they want to stay up!
I don't get the whole continuity thing, If something isn't working then why not wipe the slate clean and give everybody a fresh start and a new management team to impress? We needed a clean break from all things associated with the previous two regimes and for me that included the back room staff. We had a clear out of players but kept the two that have gone today on for a further 3 months or so I didn't get it then and I still can't see why.
Personally, I could understand why they did it. But it hasn't worked, so your way of thinking certainly seems the better option.
It's easy for me to say after the event I suppose but it just looks like another money saving scheme gone wrong to me...
Another thought. Were the players more in tune with MM and Danny can see this undermining his position as manager and the reason for poor performances. If this is true I would see it as Danny being behind removing MM.
Speculation: We didn't have enough money after paying off Flitcroft & Scott in November and we were dead set on appointing Mellon. After Yeovil popular opinion was so against Wilson we had to go out and get him but couldn't afford to get rid of Mellon/Wilcock/Lucas. Danny's come in and found that he can't work with them for whatever reason or something has gone off in the background and he's given it 'it's me or them'. And they've picked him. We should've announced his 3 year contract at the same time. I could write fiction, me.
hindsight's a wonderful thing. if we'd got the results we were hoping for, everyone would be saying it was a masterstroke and how micky mellon was the real driving force behind flicker's success last season. was only a few days ago, people were convinced micky would get the job next season. either way, too little too late for this season. we're already sunk. this move only makes any real sense, if it's part of the re-planning for League 1.
So what are our expectations now? Things improve, Things get worse, Same old same old. It may depend how the team view what's happened.
