A players duty is to play to the best of his ability on the day of the match. How much he earns is his business. He should not be concerned about the difficulties supporters may have in paying for a ticket. He is not responsible for the good name of the town. If supporters are disillusioned that is the supporters business - they have the choice of whether or not to come to the match.
Unfortunately the call to duty is being ignored they would rather listen to the last post than http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sE1huPYerp0
Well its a little difficult. Apart a season ticket and turning up trying to get behind em. (And let's be fair its very testing at the minute) What else can I do. It seems everything I might buy will go to an outsourced company. Take yesterday. I still bought another shirt. This time the away one for our kid. (Thats on top of 2 full home strips and another 2 adult tops) Only exception is Barnsley player. Which you can see from my post not so long ago im looking at. Once ive cancelled the **** that caused it all. Sky....
So much wrong in that post. If he is earning thousands he very well ought to be ashamed that hard working folk who can barely afford it turn up and pay his wages. He is responsible. Because the effort (or lack of it), puts the town in a very difficult slant downwards. In turn he contributes to the demise of the club and its knock on effects can't truly be measured but they are their. Some supporters go through thick and thin. They have little else to cheer. To say they won't go in protest for some is not even in question
Leaving aside the fact that I believe they DO have a duty to the fans, how many of the current side do you think are "playing to the best of their ability" at the moment?
I don't think any player who has played well and seen the team win leaves the pitch thinking they've put the town in a good light. I don't think it crosses the mind of a player who has played badly and seen the team lose that he is not doing right by the fans who earn a lot less than him.
So 9 then, one of which is out for the season, and another 2 injured for the next few weeks. Which aint enough is it? This isn't one of those posts about players lacking the fight or bottle, though we do have some of those too. I just think our lack of quality is being compounded by players who could do better, not doing better. From your list, Dawson is below the standards he set last season, Jennings isn't getting anywhere near enough service, O'Grady the same. Kennedy and M'Voto - maybe they are playing at the top of their game, but that's a very low standard. Don't really know what my point is tbh, but the OP suggested that the players are doing their very best and we shouldn't expect any more. I disagree.
So what happens when supporters become disillusioned because half of the team they support don't bother to try and play to the best of their ability? Of course these players do also have a choice; they could pick another career - an option I think some of our shower would be well advised to consider very seriously.
All the ability in the world means nothing without some effort. A team may get away with one passenger a game but we seem to have four or five in every game and this has been our downfall. I can forgive a lack of ability but not a lack of effort.
I don't think we've that many showing a lack of effort. Obviously Mellis & McCourt are the two standout ones who don't seem to care but beyond that there's Shea who's left, Proschwitz against Huddersfield & maybe Cwyka on the odd occasion. From what I've seen most of the rest do care they just aren't good enough
if the basic ability isn't there no amount of effort will help. You either believe we have a talented squad who lack motivation and are not given the right training or you can believe we have a team of players who have little real talent but try very hard but they are simply not good enough. Which one?
I give you Mellis as an example. Talented enough to make a difference in this league but can't be arsed. Do you think fans should just accept this and if they can't then the option is to stay away? Is that what the game has come to.
I carry on going to Oakwell because I think most players despite a lack of ability are doing their best. If I thought the majority of them couldn't give a flying f*** then I'd stop going. I don't understand why people who reckon most of the players can't be bothered, continue to go to the matches.
