Flitcroft gained 11 points and Wilson has got 17. We were 6 points from safety when Flitcroft was sacked. Now we're 3. And it's not the case that the teams just on the right side of safety have got worse. Charlton were one of the teams 6 points ahead of us at the time of Flitcroft's dismissal with 17 points from their 17 games. They've played 18 games since and put a further 18 points on the board, so continued to accumulate points at exactly the same rate. The reason we aren't now cut adrift is that we improved. Maybe you didn't want Wilson as manager, that's absolutely fine, but isn't it about time you started supporting him now he is our manager, because if we do go down it's painfully obvious it's not his fault. We've a much better chance of staying up if you're fully behind him than against him. Sometimes that extra bit from the crowd does make a difference. Yes, we've been ***** this season, even since Wilson took over, but you don't suddenly change from being completely gash for 17 games in to world beaters. You make small steps, steps like turning 11 points from 17 games in to 17, steps like turning 1 clean sheet in 17 games in to 4, no away wins in to 1. They're not seismic shifts, but they might just be enough to help us survive and that's what we needed. We may well still be relegated, but with 8 games to go we've still got a chance, where as before the change we had none. Wilson has been given the job mid-season at clubs in the relegation zone twice before in his career. He saved both Swindon and Mk Dons on those occasions. Let's get behind him and cheer him on to a third. BTW, the year after he saved Swindon from relegation he took them to the play-off final. Although if he does that with us that might be the time to sack him. He's managed clubs to 5 play-off campaigns and hasn't been successful yet. We can reinstate him after we've won promotion. You reds
Yep.....spot on that. We've 9 games left though, not 8, so even more hope there! Seriously, I don't expect us to stay up in all honesty. Charlton have a glut of home games left and will do enough to get out. All I ask is that we make a fight of it and offer some hope for next season. Tonight's win is a bloody good start.
Well said its all reight saying lets go darn feighting but same can be said for the fans get behind them and the manager and lets see where it takes us. What we got to lose that some folk may have been wrong, shock ****in horror, you may still be reight and can keep reminding us of it throughout the Summer if you are.
Great post that. I was mocked by my Leeds supporting work colleagues on Saturday. Something along the lines of 'how's that saviour working out for you?'. Truth is, it was my own fault. When I found out we'd appointed him all I could do was giddily pronounce 'he's back!'. We're still *****, the footy under Danny has been piss poor, the points gap is still too big and anything but a win on Saturday and it'll be doom and gloom again. However, perhaps we should be thankful that regardless of how this season pans out we've got a modern day hero in charge of the side. We'll never have a Ferguson or a Shankly so the bloke who got us to the Prem will have to do. And if lightening does strike twice and we do survive, get that statue up. Or as we're in times of austerity, an Ads Hinchcliff promotion season hatmask covering Dickie Birds mush will suffice. In Danny we trust.
You are like Arthur Scargill! Statistics. You must have sod all to do all day long btw. On a Saturday we go along and support the team. Not the manager. We roar when we score. We are miserable when we concede. Who should be the manager is a matter of opinion. And everyone is entitled to an opinion. These supposedly crucial statistics prove that we were going down with Flitcroft - and nobody will argue with that. They prove little else. I think we were hoping for a Wednesday type departure from the botom when Wilson took over. A bit too optimistic. But a point a game proves only that we are slightly better in terms of points than when Flitcroft was in charge. And with simple statistics, they do not go into who you played, how strong they were at the time, what the injury list was for each side, playing home or away, form at the time, refereeing decisions etc. And the eyes observe no significant improvement. And the team selections indicate each match to be a suck it and see. I never boo at our matches. Others do. I stay to the bitter end (except once). I support the team. Not one of any managers who come and go whilst I perpetually renew my seat. If the manager takes us down then I believe he has failed in his remit. But I will be there next season. Supporting the team.
Arthur Scargill, the infamous statistician and Danny Wilson supporter. Good analogy mate. Keep on criticising. It'll help no end.
Win on saturday and maybe a few more will take advantage of the club offer for the back to back home matches.
He`s just playing the present manager v the previous manager game like most do and he is also fighting his man`s corner from those that have been slating Wilson from Day one.
