I like Martin Crainie and think is he is one of our most consistent performers. As a captain though he is very quiet and rarely engages with referees when they have made bad decisions. Stephen Dawson on the other hand is in the ref's face all of the time. When they got their penalty last night you could see him asking the ref why he hadn't given a similar one at the other end. He went on to question just about every decision such that in the second half I think we got just about every 50-50 decision. He also cajoles and encourages the other players. When Reading scored from the penalty you can see him urging the players on and telling them not to let their heads down. He may not be the greatest player but he certainly has heart.
I agree, but most on here think Bobby should be playing every game. So you're going to get some negative comments about him.
He was captain at his previous club so definitely has the experience, honestly thought when we signed him he would be our permanent captain.
I enjoyed a comment on Player last night along the lines of 'Dawson is telling Frimpong to calm down and keep his head, that's something you wouldn't expect to see'. I definitely ballsed that up, but it was something to do with that. I noticed him trying to keep their spirits up after the pen too.
He was Leyton Orient's captain and best player when we took him from them. In any sport you need a good, strong captain who is not necessarily a stand out player. Dawson COULD just be the man and the extra responsibility might be good for his game. Opposition teams always seem to be in the ref's ear, especially at Oakwell. It's about time we started doing the same. Apparently he was having a word with Frimpong yesterday as well, telling him to calm down. Imagine that!
If he can get back to the form he had when he first signed and before his injury last season then he's more than capable of being a great captain. Been more miss than hit this season unfortunately. Maybe this can be an upturn for him.
I think Bobby should be playing every game but I don't see how that equates to having to give negative comments about Dawg. What a bizarre comment.
Maybe it's a deliberate ploy on his part to get as little game time as possible. Not good for his image pulling on our shirt, is it? So, if he gets booked every time he plays he is going to just be suspended most of the time. Play time in London wiv is mates still picking up his pay, job done, innit? Or maybe he is just unlucky, like Joey Barton. Refs pick on these players you know
I always go for having your best player as captain so it would be COG for me. A role given too much prominence though really.
