I don't think your brother is being irrational, I think he's bang on. I might take up the cause with him.

I don't have irrational hatred for any football teams. My hatred is all rational. It tends to be based on how horrible the fans are, or individuals, such as Kevin Blackwell and Gus Poyet.

I do, however, have irrational hatred of certain pop stars, and I actually feel guilty about it. Whenever a video with Howard Jones or that keyboard player from Level 42 pops up I feel like punching the screen. I don't know why they have this effect on me, because their music (which I don't care for) never really enters my little world, certainly not to the extent to bother me. There's just something about them that irritates me and I feel bad about this, because they both seem like nice blokes. That is maybe the problem, as they're always so ruddy cheerful.

I always ******* hated Mark King and the insipid white boy funk of Level 42. I had relegated them to the part of my brain that fails to remember ***** bands now Lessons in Love us looping round my brain. Cheers!

Just wait till you get to the bridge before the chorus and that ruddy keyboard player pops up with his bit! With his happy clappy smile and the sleeves on his fluorescent blue jacket rolled up over his flowery yellow shirt...

Bizarre that you find people with principles funny.

    How odd.

As for Ian Stott "If we hadn't have done it someone else would have" is no excuse (came close to Goodwins law there). They did it. They had the opportunity to publicly raise opposition at the very least. And in reality did nothing.

And to be fair - it's not a loathing. Not like the loathing I have for Manchester United. I don't sit at home scheming the end of the Tubular Bandage or owt daft - wheras I do have a list of companies and brands that I will not buy from because of their association with Manchester United.

I just have a small chuckle to myself when they loose.

And will raise a glass to karma when they finally exit the league.

There were two brothers in Level 42. A friend of mine had bought Smash Hits or summat and some how got it in his head that the brothers were the singer and the keyboard player. Didn't matter what the rest of us said or the fact that one was black and one was white, they were the brothers. He wasn't being ironic, he got very angry about it and was prepared to fight over it.

As it happens, Mark King's brother now plays in the group.

You should never think this about musicians just because you don't like what they do, but I ******* hate them. They ruined TOTP in the 80s.

Near a tree by a river
There's a hole in the ground
Where an old man of Aran
    Goes around and around
And his mind is a beacon
In the veil of the night
For a strange kind of fashion
    There's a wrong and a right
But he'll never, never fight over you

    That isn't a riddle Nik, it's just ********.

It's a great pop song is that. Reminds me of happy times.

The human mind is a bizarre and beautiful thing I can remember the lyrics to pretty much every ***** song of the 80s and 90s ( the verse of Nothing Ever Happens that starts 'telephone exchanges click while there's nobody there' is going through my head even as I type) but I can't remember where I leave my car and yesterday had to write the name of a work acquaintance that I've met at least 10 times on my hand as I was too bored of thinking of ways to avoid saying his name cos I couldn't remember yet a bloody gain.

Things Can Only Get Better. They certainly can Howard, as soon as I've pressed the change channel button on the remote.

It's safe to say that none of those songs are in danger of making the 80s mix on my ipod. Having said that, I quite like Nik Kershaw's first album, so what do I know. Bogart's a great song.

I made an 80s video jukebox with an ipad app (I play it through the TV - it's much better than any of the rubbish music channels and there's no adverts), for when me, the missus and her mate sit around boozing. I was really pleased with it, but they complained so much I ended up having to turn it off and add a-Ha, Wham!, and lots of theme songs for Bratpack films sung by people with big hair before the lasses would let me put it back on. Seems they didn't like Devo, The Dead Milkmen, Goodbye Mr MacKenzie and the like! I think I lived through a different 80s to them. But I don't mind Nik Kershaw.

I love that app. Nik Kershaw not about the music that I can take or leave but about his inane lyrics and Stoopid spiky hair on top of that smug face.

On an unrelated note just got Kate Bush tickets. Yippee Kay aye.

'Close circuit cameras in department stores shoot the same video each day'.

Saw a writers Circuit thing that had Justin Currie on and he was slagging off the lyrics of Orange Crush by REM saying it was just a list song...

Absolute ***** I agree just like "he thinks she's the chocolate girl cos he thinks she melts when he touches her". Pure ********. Why does my brain think I need to know such crap given I nearly left my daughter in Tescos earlier as I'd forgotten I'd taken her.

Jealous. Was thinking about it, but they're a lot of money and when you factor in everything else I couldn't really justify the expense at the moment. As coincidence happens, I'm almost through listening to her entire catalogue. I work from home (when I'm not on here ranting about smug 80s pop stars) and have my itunes open on my own pc whilst I work from the laptop. I've been listening to my entire itunes from A to Z for the past couple of years and reached Kate Bush this week. Currently have the Wuthering Heights Remix from the Whole Story playing, so just her last album left and then on to Kate Rusby I presume.

Had a shock the other day when The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu's '1987: What The F*ck Is Going On?' finished and then Justin Bieber piped up (I have all the kids albums on my itunes too). I allow myself to skip past the kids albums (and the wife's if it's something horrible like Adele, The Carpenters or Dido), but coming up after Justin Bieber was ruddy Justin Fletcher. Fortunately KD Lang was there to sweep them away. KLF and Kraftwerk must be coming up soon, and I have everything by those two (including the flute based very early Kraftwerk albums, which are, er, interesting) so it could take a while, but K is turning out to be a good one. Will probably skip the kids' Katy Perry though!

I'm sure they all think their songs are meaningful and reach out to people's inner emotions.

No. They are just pretentious ******* crap.
