I'm in the hunt for a new kitchen and I'm wondering if any of you have had 1 in recent times and if so who did it, where from, prices etc etc.

    Thanks

Got mine from Ikea. Fitted it myself (with some help). Ikea has a bit of a bad rep for cheap stuff that doesn't last, but their kitchens are good. It still looks brand new and I think I fitted it about 6 years ago. Not had a single problem with any of the components. Even the soft shut drawers and cupboards still function fine which are usually the first to go.

You can get better quality for certain if you're prepared to pay for it, but the stuff we saw in the likes of Wickes and B&Q was miles off the quality Ikea were offering.

Thanks lads. You hear that many conflicting stories that it makes it hard to pick. Personally I'd always thought that ikea was a so called 'cheap shop' but I'll have a drive though to have a look. Cheers

I currrently have a kitchen from the Moores Furniture Group at Wetherby, howeverin the past I have used Howdens Joinery, they are the company that used to supply the kitchens to MFI. Both companies do budget to top end units.

Ikea have a program you can download so that you can plan your kitchen, or they did when I installed it, was a big help.

Not saying you should go for Ikea, but from the experience I had it's definitely worth a look. I'd have a look at a few places. My father in law put in a kitchen at a similar time to us from Wickes and it's not holding up half as well. Every time he comes to ours he says he wishes he'd gone with Ikea.

We went with a B&Q one and thought the service provided was good from the designer. Had some issues with them fitting but he got it sorted, they give you a project manager (as it were) so he sorted issues out ok. Had it done about 5 years ago and absolutely no problems. We went in the lower half of the price range without going for the very cheapest. The thought was that we were going to move within a couple of years so just wanted to bring it up to date without spending loads - but happy with it still even though we didn't move.

There's a Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom place on Woolley Wood Bottom at Ecclesfield think they call it KD Kitchens. They stock all kinds of top notch units, carcasses and worktops. They'll come out and measure up and design you a kitchen from top to bottom. Used them for our kitchen and two bedrooms and they're higher quality than Magnet but half the price. They'll also arrange fitting for you. They can do anything from a makeover i.e. change the doors, to a full kitchen with appliances, lighting and flooring. I'd highly recommend them.

    Just found a card. It's called KAW (Kitchen Appliance Warehouse), 95/97 Green Lane, Ecclesfield, S35 9WY. Phone 0114 2455456 or 0114 2571656.
I'd recommend a trip to see what they've got before you settle for anything else.

I've just had a lad called Andy Robinson doing some work for me - he was recommended by a mate who he fitted a kitchen for. The work he did for me (bathroom suite, tiling, floors, etc) was top quality and likewise so was the work he did for my mate. If you want a quote for fitting let me know and I'll pass you his mobile number.

We got ours done last year. Had it planned and priced up at both Magnet and B&Q.
Some then told us to try a local company, Graham Gill in Mexborough. A tiny shop but he came out measured up, got us samples etc, and got a better quality high gloss kitchen from him for half the price the other two were offering.

Also, had a couple of issues with a marked door and once fitted incorrect which damaged door, and he came out and replaced within days.

Best place is a place called gateford mills at Worksop.....it's worth the drive trust me....I'm in the trade and they beat howdens and magnet prices by a mile. I've just fitted a massive kitchen al together it came to £2500, from magnet and howdens they quoted me £4000. There really good quality and there not flat packed, units are made up for you. Take cash he loves a deal.
