Royal Fail

It was my little sisters birthday last Thursday, and because I was unable to get over in person I sent her a birthday card last Tuesday at around midday. The card never arrived, still hasn't in fact. We assumed it'd been stolen, I did put some money in like. But just received a txt off dad telling me the post office in tarn have it. Apparently, the 'package' was underpaid by 9 pence.

It was a standard sized birthday card. Pink envelope. Sent first class (60 pence stamp on it).

They want £1 before he can collect it.

I felt a reight lovely person when it never showed for her birthday, and it turns out it didn't because they reckon it was 9 ******* pence underpaid? Even worse, the post office was shut last Tuesday so I couldn't buy a single stamp, had to buy a book of 6 for £3.60 from't coop. I'll still have at least 3 stamps this time next year. Basterds.

 

A thought out over a certain size you had to look at a table which illustrates the size and how many stamps it requires???

 

I probably send one thing via post every year, at the most. Sometimes never have to send owt. But because I live over here now and couldn't get over to tarn in person this time, sending a card via post was the only option. It was a standard birthday card. Probably smaller than standard actually. So I'm baffled as to their thinking. How was I meant to pay an extra 9p on it by the way? They don't do 9p stamps. If I'd known they were such cnuts, I'd have plastered the envelope with all 6 stamps.

Find it appalling that a young kid doesn't get her birthday card on time because of such fcukery.

I totally agree with you in many ways on this one. They changed the pricing a while back. They did send out what we call a "household" Junk mail in real mans terms, so I can guess how many actually read that one. They did not do too much on tv about it either. I often take out what we call a "Charge", a letter or package that has insufficient postage on it. Normally its £1:09 to £1:50... but the £1 is the admin fee... yes I think its ludicrous too... the other day I had one in my hands , it was obiously a Mothers day card, sent to a Granny by her Grand Daughter.... it was addressed to MY GRANNY... all done in kisses XXXXXXXX... it had insufficient postage on it so the Charge came to £1:19... the old lady is 94 she is starting to go down with dementia or Altzheimers or summat..... I just could not do it, so I ripped the charge sticker off it and gave the Post Master the cash. It did not sit right with me at all .

But you said you put money in it, if you do it again please I urge you to send it by recorded delivery... that way you will pay the right amount in the first place( and its not a massive amount more than standard) it means it WILL get there on mormal first class time scales.. and it means someone HAS to sign for it at the other end, which means you know it gets there...also You the sender can track it. I am also surprised that your Sister did not get a card (white and grey for charges)through the door to say there was a charged item to be collected. we have to put through an official card for all undelivered mail, if she did not get that then the postie did not do his/her job correctly.

 

oh and also, Whitey.

when she collected the card it should have had a Yellow sticker on it giving a breakdown of the charges... it should also have had a RED/White sticker on it too..... this is what we term as a "Docket Left" sticker ..it would tell the post Master the date the item was attempted to be delivered and also the exact round too... also it should have the duty postmans initials on the "docket left" sticker.

Docket left refers to the card that should have been put through your sisters letterbox to say there is an item for collection.
Most frontline posties do take some pride in what they do , I certainly do. But as we all know there are always some bad apples in a barrel.... and that gives a bad name to the lot.

 

No - for once they're not.

If it's over 5mm in thickness or over a certain size it doesn't go through the automatic equipment.

They have to manually handle it.

It's less efficient.

It costs more to handle.

They charge more.

You underpaid.

Your fault.

Take some responsibility.

your welcome fella... oh and by the way

by simply sending it recorded you get some insurance on it too. Also If you are ever caught, there are two systems of next day delivery , we call them specials. they can ensure in the first one that its delivered next day by 1pm as long as its sent by 3pm ... the other will ensure its there by 9am next day...not sure on the cut off time for that one... as you might imagine the cost of these are a tad expensive. But for legal stuff, valuable stuff its often worth it.

 

I take it you managed to get some of their underpriced shares then.....lucky you

 

Sorry for not being clued up on the world of postage. I assumed (like an unresponsible basterd) that a standard birthday card would require just a first class stamp on it. It's been the case every other time I've had to send one. The rules must have changed (never heard of this 5mm ruling) without me knowing about them.

But I do find it very cnutish of Royal Mail to hold onto a child's birthday card for the sake of 9 pence, or, £1.09 as it turns out. And as Baz points out above, he finds it just as ridiculous, and with him being one of the poor basterds on the front line posting (or not in these cases) stuff to us, I'll take his point over yours which was typed out by a lovely person I reckon.

If you hadnt left it so late the issue would have been sorted before her birthday anyway. Lets face it it was your fault it didnt arrive not theirs. You even tried blaming them for you having to buy 6 stamps
