so the Daily Mail reckon they know the match fixers.

Ha ha. I'd usually agree although his last few performances have been pivotal in our 'ounce of self belief'!

Blimey. Innocent until proven guilty of course. But still. ****. On the surface of it, I couldn't imagine a more honest man and player. Fingers crossed nothing comes of it.

Can we make sure we use the right terms. It's spot fixing, not match fixing.

What is Daswon actually accused of? What is 'spot' fixing? The article said it isn't necessarily match fixing.

Silver lining? At least it wasn't Steele, O'Grady or Jennings, if we had to play without either of them we would be royally screwed. Also, Preston has 6 players involved? Wtf? I think their fans deserve a season ticket refund if half the squad has been fecking up on purpose for however long.

Spot Fixing is fixing of a certain "event" or making sure something occurs at a certain time ie First Corner, First Throw in, Making sure that you get booked/sent off etc.

It's been highlighted in Cricket over the last few years, with some high profile bowlers sending down no balls, conceding over X runs in an over etc.
It's not necessarily directly affecting the outcome of a match, but it's definitely not great news.

    Innocent until proven guilty.

You can bet on all sorts of things number of throw ins corners yellow cards and such like so if someone as been paying Dawson to make sure their are over 10 goal kicks in a game and his shooting a lot off target to make sure theirs more then 10 then it's called spot fixing

First thing to say Whitey is that it seems to be only the Mail who have named names. As Gally warned everyone on here yesterday, in the absence of confirmation, even repeating what is said in one report is potentially defamatory if the information proves to be wrong. An example of that was Sally Bercow's tweet concerning (the late) Lord McAlpine for which she had to settle out of court in an action for defamation. I shan't be repeating the name mentioned!

Second thing - if it is confirmed that a certain player is involved, then I can't see how such a player could continue to be selected as there would be bound to be deep suspicion both among that player's teammates and among supporters if the person concerned was still on police bail on suspicion of dishonesty. When Keiren Fallon (no relation) was charged with race-fixing he was unable to ride again until his case was dealt with - even though it was eventually adjudged that he had no case to answer!

Third thing - IF anyone is convicted of this then they will deserve no sympathy (or leniency) whatsoever. Even at Championship/lower league level many of these people make money on a weekly basis that most of us could only dream of. To be attempting to top that up dishonestly would show towering greed and arrogance, as well as utter contempt for the supporters who pay their wages.

Why can you not imagine a more honest man? Anyone can put up a fake front for a few press interviews. We have no idea if he or any of our players are complete ****s behind the scenes or male versions of Princess Diana loved by all and salt of the earth types. Even if you know someone personally you never fully know them, nevermind people we just watch kick a football around. Especially in this day and age where actually loving a player or seeing them as a legend or future legend is harder than ever with how quickly players move on.

Because I believe in innocent until proven guilty. And because I believe in human nature. And because my default position isn't to disbelieve people. I'm just not that cynical

But you can't imagine a more honest man so you think he's very honest even though you don't personally know him. Too trusting but that's your decision :) They are just guys that kick a football around. Hassell aside it's not like the good old days for seeing someone playing for our team who would stay long term through their own choice.
