Basically small pubs set up in rented former shops, low overheads & cask ale, sounds quality!
No food except traditional bar snacks, no lager, no spirits, no alcopops, no TV's & no electronic gaming machines.
My mate is opening one in his home town of Chorley in the next couple of months. I think the nearest one to Barnsley at the moment is in Chesterfield.

Is the beer foul or is it that you just don't like real ale?

It says microPUB revolution & the only time I have seen it termed as such is when I first put it

    Plus it's a phase that's been passing since 2005

A number of pubs in Beverley sell real ale and I'm partial to the odd pint. I just feel the micropub near where I live don't offer simple real ale the average person likes

    Its called Chequers.

Got a black and white flag across the wall and just set back off the square. A nice atmosphere but not a big fan of the beer

It's only the last couple of days I've been researching these & I have actually seen that one mentioned, I'm hoping to visit the one in Chesterfield on Sunday and there's already a couple in Lancashire that I'm going to visit next time we visit the in-laws

These look really interesting. I'm also partial to brewing my own beer, and the idea of opening a mircopub is quite attractive if I ever leave my current job......might go and check out some empty shop in Wakey, its not as though there aren't many to choose from!!!

Is this the same as the "pop-up boutique" idea where the term of the lease is 6 months or so? I really hope this takes off.

I don't think so, The Butchers Arms (the original one) has been open since 2005, there's quite a few of them down in Kent & now the idea is starting to take off up north.
I think it's a brilliant idea & doesn't cost massive amounts to get off the ground.

I'm new to this proper beer drinking lark and I'm not really sure what cask ales are. If I get a pint of hand pull, is that from a cask and considered real ale, but on the electric pump that's from a keg and considered by connoisseurs to be inferior. Is that right?
