New scapegoat? Personally, I'm delighted he's back in. He's got genuine quality. But haterz gona hate.
New? Hardly new He's ensured by his own dire, don't give a **** attitude all season that he has well and truly been the old scapegoat for ages Considering you said you would punch Kennedy, I hate to think what you would do to Mellis by same token
A passenger again tonight like he has been all season. I'm obviously yet to see this quality he has. He's not in the team to fight and battle, I can accept that. What I can't accept is he won't run, he very rarely finds a red shirt, created literally nothing and it's not like he's smashing 10 goals a season home. If we're going to play a 'luxury player' please god let it be anyone but this useless clown.
I'd been drinking. And as I said at the time, "not merely for his footballing talent". I think Mellis since he joined in 2012 as created more goals than anyone, scored a few, some beauties too, and generally been a quality free signing. I admit he's been poor of late, I do question his attitude on the pitch at times. But I'd still rather watch footballers than triers.
What about it? Wiseman, Perkins and Dagnall amongst others were all footballers then too. Are they good because they had a purple patch for a couple of months ?
Come on lads. Stop pinching my "heart of a pea" phrase. When I first said it I got berated on here no end. Now the chickens are coming home to roost. Daft thing is he has got it, but don't apply it, that's the tragedy.
You're asking me 'what about it'? You said he isn't a footballer or trier. I asked 'what about last season'? He was fantastic for us last season, in his first full season of professional football. That's my opinion. You reckon he's *****, full stop. No problem. That's your opinion. But folk will disagree with you because not all of us judge players in the short term, like, directly after one poor game. For instance, Reuben. He was 'amazing' this time last week. Yet tonight, folk are slating him after a 25 minute appearance. Had he scored it'd be different again. So I don't mind opinions and criticisms of players. I just choose to ignore those formed on a select game.
Hang about. I am the first to stick up for 'luxury' players or ballers or whatever you want to call them if there's some evidence that they're going to make something happen. I'll stick up for players who are patently crap but who have the right attitude, but I won't salivate over Mellis because he hasn't shown anything this season. He played well in a team that was flying on confidence at the end of last season and things were just working for us. This season they're not, and when the chips are down he's nowhere to be found. My other point was that Wiseman and Dagnall were also fantastic for us during that spell and yet you won't find too many claiming that they're good championship players because of it. I don't do reactionary judgements on players, and you'll find theres plenty of folk agree with me based on what they've seen over a long period of time. Which is that Jacob Mellis, if he is as talented and creative as some make out, does an extremely good job of concealing it.
Mellis' best spell last season was under Keith. He then enjoyed a good spell under Flicker. As I say, POTY for me. He's been poor this season in comparison. Awful in his last few games especially. No argument from me on that.
