I agree with a lot of that and it does seem Dale has gone off the boil a little last 2 games he seems to taking the wrong options where he was taking the right ones and also opponents have wised up to the fact he is one of our main threats.
When you score three goals from cutting inside on your right foot teams quickly wise up. Same happened with Hammill and any other laiker we've ever had. Just needs patience for him to develop something else - still out most promising player.
He would have more space to operate in if O`Grady would move more central and thats a bugbear I`ve had wi COG and the managers since we signed him from the piggies.
After 10 minutes we should have realised that Steele hoofing the ball in O'Grady's direction was not going to work, and it never will if he is playing up front on his own.
I'm not going overboard about the defeat, it was always going to be a tough ask, especially after Ings was declared fit. However I think you're off the mark with Mellis & Woods - call the scapegoats if you like but the fact is they should not play for Barnsley ever again. He didn't have to bring them back as you say - he could have played Frimpong & McCourt or Hassell & McCourt. Mellis & Woods have not been showing their supposed skill on the ball and they have both got hearts the size of peas. They've been given chance after chance to prove their worth and failed miserably every time - other players have not been given that opportunity until an injury crisis forced it i.e. M'Voto, Nyantaga, RNL, Cywka McCourt. Personally I thought Polish Tom had a good game so I don't really know why you're comparing him with Mellis who had yet another shocker. We all thought that both of them wouldn't be seen in a reds shirt again after the debacle against Bournemouth and it was good to see them not even in the squad on Saturday. So why did he have no choice but to play them both again? McCourt showed more skill and creativity in his 10 minute cameo than those two put together.
We were rubbish. The end. I do now agree with the McCourt argument now though. Mellis and Woods repeatedly shown they're every bit as lazy. At least Paddy can actually find the odd pass Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Frimpong & McCourt have both been accused of exactly the things you're accusing Woods & Mellis of. So that's my point - least worst option. They were poor, no denying it, but it's not like it was completely obvious that the other options we had would be better is it?
Fair point - pretty much a no win situation for him then, except the vast majority of fans around me were astounded when they saw the team with those two in there and feared the worst. I'm not sure whether there would have been quite as much negativity had he chosen the other two lazy gets.
Unfortunately we have a very, very thin squad. On paper, a side with Mellis/Jennings/Cywka and O'Grady is as attacking as we probably have (I'd throw McCourt in but you know what I mean). It didn't work - I expect Lawrence & Etuhu to be back in the side Saturday. Let's not forget he's been playing Pedersen up front with O'Grady too when he's been fit. Unfortunately, bar the first 4 weeks Nick ze German hasn't really shown anything.
I read most of the comments on here last night, but unlike yourself, I was not amazed. Posters have had their hopes boosted and their expectations raised by two comfortable away victories. There is nothing as dangerous for incumbent managers and players as supporters with raised expectations, because when the team fails to match those raised expectations, there is always a backlash. Individual posters return to the same scapegoats who have provided them with such rich pickings in the past with renewed vigour. We need to get rid of the toilers and then those with no heart and then those with no work ethic. We need to play the kids, because they would care. It is all nonsense. It is the ravings of angry people who do not know what to do about it and who only know for certain that the team has lost, that they are angry and that it is someones fault. It is what makes visits to this site after matches less and less appealing.
Admire yours and anyone elses optimism. But I still thought we were doomed even after the three game run and the seven points accrued. See my posts/blog if you don't believe me. But I didn't mind so much because the fight and the effort was there in spades, on Saturday especially. But we did lack quality though. But I can forgive them that. Last night however, my grievances were with the manager for some of his decisions. I thought the inclusion of Woods was ******* barmy. As did the majority of folk I spoke to pre match. Same folk thought Mellis' reappearance was bizarre too. I agreed, and wouldn't have included him myself either. That despite me being one of his few fans these days. I just get the feeling he's not 'in' this anymore, seems to have given up. It turns out Danny was resting Lawrence. I can understand that, just about. He's no spring chicken and has played three games in 10 days. But personally (having only seen him against Brighton of those three games), I wasn't overly impressed with him. I left Oakwell at the weekend and thought he was 'ok'. But did think it'd be easier to judge his ability/impact when he WASN'T playing. And so I suppose it's now easy to point to his absence last night as one of the reasons we struggled. I'm not sure - still - that that's the case. I hope so though. This Woods bloke doesn't deserve much of my time, so I'll keep it brief by saying we've better options in the under 18's squad, probably. Absolute gash. So why he gets the nod from nowhere over the likes of Hassell and Frimpong I'll never know. We all know what Bobby is capable of though. And as much as I've been disappointed with Frimpong, I'd still sooner see him than players like Woods who seemingly have no actual qualities. Or at least, none that I've seen since he arrived. I was shocked at his signing. He's showing us why. Then, his use of substitutions. For me, Woods wanted subbing off at half time, such was his shambles of a performance. Yet he got to around the 80th minute mark. Barmy. Danny put Paddy on way too late. He also stuck Reuben - once on - out wide, the same areas where Jennings and Cywka (and ******* COG) failed miserably both last night and at the weekend. This despite Reuben apparently looking quality up and around COG, through the middle. I just don't get Danny's thinking on that. So they were my grievances. It doesn't mean I hate the manager, or that I want a new one. I'm as big a Wilson supporter as the next man. But I won't offer up lame/tired excuses for him when he gets stuff wrong, or quote the opposition's strength or our recent form to hide his errors on the night. It's my opinion (and that's all it is) that Danny ****** up last night. His interview post match was bizarre as well. I can only assume he's saying what he is in an effort to reassure his squad that we can still do this. So I'll give him that. But it'd be nice on occasion for him to admit he got summat wrong. Not that managers often do. And to be fair, these local reporters are ******* ***** at asking questions anyway. I hope we stay up. Obviously. Not that it matters to me if we don't. I'll be there regardless and just as fanatic as ever. But I'm a reactionary basterd and praise/criticise where I see fit. As I imagine it's normal to do. Because it's a sign of caring. Rather this than just blowing smoke up certain individuals arses for reasons unknown, or tearing into individuals for other reasons unknown. For example, if I get to work tonight and someone has ****** up my paperwork again, I'll react how I see fit. Others wouldn't. They'd take it. Just muddle on through. But they'd be struggling to get through the shift without making mistakes, whereas my reaction gets answers and resolutions. Not a ******* clue what I'm talking about now so I'll press the STFU button on myself. You babbling Reds.
