At school we have a competition three times a year called Names in a Hat and the themes are always Christmas, Easter and Summer, depending on the time of year. Each class has to create something that can contain names, as each time a child is good they get a name to go into said creation, and whoevers name is drawn out in assembly from each one wins a prize.

The assembly is very light hearted, with the head insulting whatever has been made in a joking way and if it is a bird/anything shaped like a ball etc. he will throw it to see if it flies (the creations often get destroyed). As well as for the name being called out of, the creations are also part of the competition, with the names drawn out in order from worst creation to best. Now, I am very competitive and my classes have won it a few times over the years, but I am starting to run out of ideas. It has to be something surreal, if we make just an egg or a basket, it will be out straight away.

My last winning entry was a 5ft paper rollercoaster (a marble run) in a jungle theme with paper snakes hanging off of it (we were the snake class) for summer (link to theme parks). Last year we won the Easter one too by making 'Easter Island' with clay Maois and a volcano which held the names.

Any ideas what we could do this time? It needs to be weird, but link to Easter and be able to hold around 100 tiny bits of paper with names on.

I shall have to think about this. He's obsessed with Man U, all of his assemblies have something to do with it in a really subtle way that goes over the kids heads. I'm wondering how he may react to a player of another team. Primary school, it's all just politics really ;)

Oo Easterlings. Who or what were they from the Lord of the Rings? (Not going to lie, never seen it, but I want to read the books so please tell me in a non-spoiler way). I was doing a search of Easter with any remotely reglious word minused in Google. Were they important? Instantly recognisable?

Frank the Donnie Darko Easter Bunny, complete with basket for the names? If traumatising the children isn't a problem, of course.

Make a model of Easter Island. Each kid can make their own Statue and put their name on it.

We've done that ;) 'Last year we won the Easter one too by making 'Easter Island' with clay Maois and a volcano which held the names.'

But hey, that was a winning idea on your first go ;) Now you need to think of another one for this year!!

All I could think of so far was bad puns such as Eggstreme Sports or Eggsperiment.

I get the impression you're primary. As a secondary teacher, we don't need much creativity that way. I'll get my y10's to think of something tomorrow when I should be teaching them about evolution

What about a Chinese or Indian theme for each egg you could call them Eastern eggs or summat.

Pretend you're dyslexic and do a theme about Eaters.

You could have Macdonalds, KFC, Wimpey, Burger King Drive-throughs where the attendant gives you a slip of paper with one of the kids names on it with a meal named after it. e.g. JamDrop Burger and small fries.
