I'm staggered! Nearly a 50/50 split after 48 votes I voted a skint BFC by the way! From the viewpoint that I'd foresee the name change as the tip of the iceberg. Name, Ground, kit colour, those dog **** badges/crests, sacking Rimmo coz the new owners can't understand him, it's a slippery slope and one I've no intention of skidding down. I'd go for reverting to the Barnsley St Peters, old well badge, staying at Oakwell playing in 1912 kit colours away and knighting Rimmo. Nil investment required!
Then for crying out loud why are you watching Barnsley ? Theres loads of clubs with massive investment without Barnsley in the name
Do we have an over inflated opinion of ourselves, kinda works both ways id say..spend a few seasons struggling in league 1 or worse, and then ask the same question..Or ask the fans at Halifax, Wrexham, Grimsby and Luton and the like, what they'd do. After tasting near oblivion. Who all in my life time have been higher up the football pyramid than us..and now look at em.. And with our level of support and no backing, Only thing left is to sell your best players, which brings its own problems, like puting a downer on the club before the season even starts, and the knock on in selling less STs....its going to be so hard if we drop.
Fark me - when were Wrexham and Halifax above us - 1972 for one season? Man City were a division below us for two years as recent as 1999 so how does that fit in?
Bfc are just trying to explore different ways of getting in more revenue, because on our gates we cannot compeat... The teams that I mentioned are have a similar sized town and support to us , and look where they are. As for Man City, Leeds, Southampton and the rest mentioned, there is one big difference., the size of support they command..
I don't think something like Barnsley Tykes would be seen as offensive by most fans but if a ground move was mentioned I wouldn't be onboard.
The last time Halifax were in the Football League they averaged 2,115, Wrexham averaged 4,234 and the last time Luton were in the Championship they averaged 8,580. I think you're doing us a disservice comparing us to these clubs. In 1998 we averaged 18,449 compared to Southampton's 15,159 and in 1999 16,269 to their 15,140 even though they were a division higher. And in 2000 15,401 to their 15,132 while they were a division higher again.
I don't think many would Mario, don't think anyone wants to share Oakwell with a Rugby team from Rotherham eitheir. But PC has entrusted Maurice Ben and Barry Taylor with our future..ie raising money to run the club. I would guess all possible avenues are been explored and considered.
At least while PC is at the helm we are in safe hands and that is why I am very careful what I wish for.
I agree with that, but if we go down, how will we raise money? If we stay up its a lesser problem. But If Maurice is arguing that the level of debt to be raised to 10 mil is acceptable, then that would suggest we may be going down the same road as all the rest..
I personally think that Maurice's position at the club is in direct conflict with his business interests and that puts him in an untenable situation. Going down is going to really hurt us financially so we have to do everything we can to get back at the first attempt.
