    No, it'll be great.

I'm looking forward to Crawley and Shrewsbury hoofballing us to death in front of 6000 Barnsley fans and 70 away ones.

I think so the atmosphere will be more subdued due to the type of opposition, plus if we saying we can't cut it in championship being competitive in league one will mean nothing as we'd have nothing to look forward to on that basis

i renewed my STs for next year. gone in the family area, paid £200 less and a get free kids ticket thrown in. i'll see how it goes, i'll swear less and won't get stressed if i miss the odd match. hopefully we'll win more than we lose, and i might start getting the buzz back.

Do you know that Burnley's debt is estimated as between 70 million and a 100 million quid?

Agree with sone of your points though.

We spent 1 year together in the championship and we were relegated at the end of it.

I think our 1st year down in L1, when we almost dropped straight through, Rotherham did really well in the Champ and finished mid table. Not sure but I think they came down the year after.

Well tbh I don't consider survivng in champonship as low expectation especially in the current climate whereby teams have spent ten times our budget and are not too far above us. Whether its because I have spent a lot of time watching the reds in the lower divisions and don't feel arrogant enough to feel that we have a right to be there or not I don't know .
But I do know i never want my club to end up on the brink of extinction chasing a dream and want them to compete and exist in a competitive manner on and off the pitch and as I say to my Wendy following mates you are where you are not where you think you should be imo

Oops highlighted wrong thread should be stairfoot reds

I can't wait for FA Cup Round 1 and being turned over by Barbour Keef twice in the same season.

Anyone looking forward to relegation needs their head looking at

It is low expectation when that's all you expect season after season, eventually you end up in the position we are in looking like going down and my fear is that the drop to league one could be followed by a drop to league two because the powers that be have the mind set that theres no point striving for the Championship because we cant compete so lets settle for what we have and thats whats got us in the mess we are in now.
The problem with Barnsley Football Club is the same as the problem with the town as a whole there's absolutely no ambition to strive for anything better than what we've got now and a belief that we can never be anything other than a down at heel small ex mining town with a small down at heel football club. I remember how I felt that day back in April 1997 and I won't accept it can't happen again and if your saying I have to then what is the point of turning up at Qakwell every other week. I'm sick of hearing we cant compete in the championship it's defeatest and is part of the reason the current squad have no confidence or fight

Would you like us to take the same route as Burnley getting the best part of a 100million in debt? Or Leeds losing a million quid a month? Or Bolton £163 million in debt? Or Leicester losing £31 million last year? Or Middlesborough losing 1 million a month? Or maybe Blackburn another in massive debt? The only way to be 'competitive' in the Championship is to match the transfer fees and wages of these clubs. There is no solution for financially prudent clubs like ours and Yeovil and. Millwall and Charlton and Blackpool. Cheats in this league are the only ones who prosper.

Just look around oakwell and see all the empty seats ....they are empty for the simple reason folk along the way have taken the attitude why bother watching dross paying good money to a club that lacks ambition and is content just surviving year after year bleating on about how hard it is. Ask any of the old guys and we all know some one, why they dont go down to oakwell anymore then come on here and post your answers .......bet a pattern emerges and relegation wont help because those empty seats will be joined by more. Once you loose a customer its hard to get them back.
this day and age theres a thousand and one other things to keep most folk occupied on a saturday and tuesday night.
getting relegated is not going to put bums on seats something that ben said he wanted to do when he first took over....looks like hes failing big time..unless hes counting the rugby supporters in his calculations. Relegation another step in the wrong direction

Buy this man a pint. This appears to be the definition of ambition in today's game

You may be sick of hearing that we can't compete but don't you think the evidence is rather overwhelming?

The logic behind that way of thinking is very confused.

Drop to League 1 where we can possibly compete at the top of the division and have a shot at winning games and ultimately promotion, but already accepting that we can't compete in the Championship thus rendering promotion pointless as we'll be back at square one again...

If we can't find a way to compete in the Championship both on and off the field then we might as well pack in as winning games in League 1 will mean nothing.

    Sad sad times.

Do you think we went for the premiere league in the promotion season?
No we didn't and we also didn't set out for just surviving neither. What we did is what we do every season and that is recruit within or means and do the best we can if we end up fighting for survival so be it if its promotion so be it. But to suggest we just set our season out on one strategy is wrong.
What do you think happened to wolves last season do you think they recruited to just survive in the championship? I very much doubt it tbh.
As I believe we are where we are because of decisions made by the management throwing money doesn't always guarantee success but it does cause problems as we are all too well aware.
