Rocket Ronnie 11/8 to win the whole thing!! short as short can be..... but who will beat him? thereev reckons the only person that can beat rocket ronnie is.........ROCKET RONNIE there you go a bit of psyco analysis for ya hth
Now this is interesting, Mr Reev. I agree entirely with you, but as Ronnie has 'beaten himself' several times over the years I reckon that you would need at least 2/1 to be having any value. That represents a 50% chance that he is in the right frame of mind (pardon the pun). At the current odds, no bet! Anyway, Kaht Junior and myself will be making our annual pilgrimage for the morning session on Saturday 26th, where Ronnie should be on view unless he loses in R1 or wins his R2 match in two sessions. Of a little more interest is Taghrooda (John Gosden) for the 1,000 Guineas. The fillies look much of a muchness this year, and yesterday's Nell Gwynn did little to clarify the picture. Taghrooda is once-raced (1/14 at Newmarket) filly with any amount of scope for improvement. By Sea The Stars (won 2,000 Guineas). A speculative bet, but at the 40/1 available and with Gosden in the form he is, she's interesting. She caught the eye in a racecourse gallop before racing yesterday at Newmarket. Nudge nudge, wink, wink!
Got to agree with you there reev. Technically for me Ronnie is by some margin the best snooker player ever born - however, his lack of titles (due to his mental deficiencies) means he should never be mentioned in the same breath as Hendry, Davis etc. The mental aspect of snooker is every bit as important as technical ability. Still, the only player in snooker that attracts a crowd. Snooker, considered by many as possibly the dullest sport of them all, would be much more dull without Ronnie in it.
Wouldn't that represent a 33% chance of him being in the right frame of mind? I hope he is in the right frame of mind and wins it, he's awesome when he's on form.
The same problem that affected Alex Higgins and Jimmy White. They should all have won a lot more than they did.
Yep MR - I was kind of thinking one point for whether Ronnie is in the right frame of mind and one point for the field. But you're right of course - 2/1 would represent 33%. The other big question is: are the mental blips a thing of the past now he's under the wing of Dr Steve Peters?
I wouldn't even bother giving an outside bet for the cruicible because realistically I cannot see anyone getting near him. He dropped 41 frames to win it in 2012 and went even better winning it by only dropping 39 frames last year. I'd add Hyderbad Sunrisers (around 5/1) for a 14/1 double with Sporting Bet. They have the two biggest hitters with David Warner and Aaron Finch. Plus the best bowler in the world Dale Steyn. Not sure why they are only 3rd favourites.
Jimmy White is my all time favourite. It's sad that he failed to capture the big one. It comes from being there in the era of the greatest ever Stephen Hendry. Much like with Athletics we had Roger Black capturing so many silver medals because Michael Johnson was about. Also sad that Paul Hunter died because he's have followed in the footsteps of Joe Johnson in being a Yorkshire winner at the Cruicible.
talk of Hendry, Davis, O'sullivan being the best ever is incorrect. I think you have all forgot Tony Knowles!!
He's only a couple off Davis and Hendry now isn't he? So course he should be mentioned in the same breath. In fact, once retired he'll be the first name mentioned when 'greatest player ever' is a topic. He'd had a nightmare season in 2012 and was heading out of the top 16 when he went on to win his fourth world title. In the final against Carter, he recorded the highest break (141) ever at a Crucible final. He practically retired the following year, dropped out of the top 16, only to return in April of 2013 to successfully defend his world title in beating Hawkins in the final. He made his 131st century break at the Crucible, beating Hendry's record in the process. He also became the first player to compile six century breaks in a Crucible final. Also became only the third player (Davis, Hendry) to retain his title in Sheffield. At the Masters this season, he whitewashed Walden 6-0 in the quarters, scoring 556 points without reply - a professional record. He reached his 10th Masters final (beating Hendry's record of 9) and triumphed over Selby to lift his fifth title. He's since won his third Welsh Open, his 26th ranking title. In the last frame he recorded a maximum 147 break, his 12th in a rankings tournament, a new record (again, beating Hendry's). He's without doubt the greatest player to pick up a cue. He should have probably won more titles, but the bloke is an absolute genius and the only reason I've liked snooker since I was young. The day he retires will be the day I stop watching it. He is snooker. And my sporting hero. Can you tell?
You're right, on his day there is no-one to beat Ronnie but himself. Bearing in mind he's won it the last two years, the odds suggest he's due a bit of bad luck, so.... back Ding Junhui @ 8/1 (Betfair). He's on form and should win the World Championship one day, so this year could be his year.
It's all about Ronnie being in the right mindset, but I think he's more focused now than he ever has been. He's got it in his mind that he's going to surpass Stephen Hendry's record of 7 world titles. To be honest, there's nobody who comes close to the rocket even if he's only playing at half his best. For me, there's no value in betting on the snooker at all this year. The rocket is going to win it. But at such a short price there's little value in taking it on. There's no value in backing a player to make the semi finals, as that is pretty much a lottery. None of the other big players are consistent enough to warrant a bet, Selby, Trump, Ding, Maguire, all very inconsistent at the world championship. Maybe a cheeky bet on either Robertson, Carter or Murphy to reach the final is the only way to go, as these are 3 players who often make the latter stages of the tournament.
Could have Robertson or Carter to reach the final but Murphy is in Ronnie's half. In fact he's the only leading player that is - which probably strengthens Ronnie's hand!
No. That would be impossible, as they would meet in the 2nd round, if they win their 1st round matches.
