I think you will find that I have said over and over that everyone is entitled to their beliefs, I just find it strange that those who do not believe in God have to keep telling everyone ! Also this thread was not about NOT believing in God , it was aimed at those that do. , Start another thread if you want , but to jump in is a bit rude dont you think ?
i also find it strange that people believe a woman was made from a man's rib, a man parted a sea with a stick, and a man built a big boat with two of every species in it. but hey, it takes all sorts p.s. i don't believe in unicorns, father christmas or the tooth fairy either, if it helps?
Not realy its a open forum. Is it rude for people to knock on my door selling their religion to me? Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Good for you, but why belittle those that do have faith ? Why do you have to try and make fun of what others belief, No-one is trying to convert you ! If this thread has no interest to you why bother replying, it is obvious that you and others in this thread only want to make fun , why ? Each to their own I reckon.
In that case all you have to do is politely say " No thank you " You dont follow them down the street shouting how you dont believe in God , do you ? If a thread is not what you like then dont bother with it, there is no rule saying you have to reply to it !
The Synod of Whitby decided on the date of Easter in the Christian calendar and I've just got back from a p155 up to Whitby.... does that count........hic ?
You need more faith to believe there is no God than to believe that there is. 'You live. You die. End of story.' Now that really is scary.
One of my favorites is Farther Richard Rohr, teachers direct.
My view ....(for what it's worth) Believe or don't believe in what you want, but don't push your beliefs on others.
I don't believe in God, but I believe in Christian values: love, forgiveness and kindness. I try to treat everyone how I'd like to be treated myself. Everyday I welcome strangers with a smile and attempt to converse with them. Sometimes I get short shrift, some people think I'm mental, but sometimes I make them laugh and genuinely make their day, which is what I try to do. But where I differ from Christians is that I don't do that for salvation, I don't do it because I want to be welcomed in to the kingdom of heaven. I really don't, three score years and 10 will be plenty enough for me. I do it because I genuinely believe in the inherent good nature of human beings, I do it because it's the right thing to do, I do it because I want everyone I pass to be happy. Not that I have anything against the church, I think there are some very kind people within that institution whose only motivation is to help people. But I believe the goodness within us is part of humanity, not sent down from God. And just to counter that I can drink any one of you under the table, I smoke enough in a day to give Peter O'Toole cancer, I take drugs and don't apologise for that and I'll shag anything with a pulse. I'm a lovely person, but I'm a friendly lovely person.
Why is it though ? Because we are limited by our minds we cannot imagine ourselves 'dead'... nothingness. If you want to see scary look at the last judgement as depicted on the ceiling of the Duomo or the Baptistery in Florence. Now that is very serious scary stuff used as social control in a bygone era. Unfortunately the religious fundamentalists that twist both the Islamic and Christian religions for their own purposes haven't consigned the social control to that bygone era. I am an atheist but that doesn't mean I don't respect the beliefs of Dunstani or Mad Mark because I don't agree with them if they respect my views. I am however very wary of organised religion for the reasons I have stated above.
The Dalai lama says his religion is simply kindness. I think thats what you've just described above mate..
