I've caught misen amongst the vast majority on here. We're not down yet. It'll need a miracle yes, can we win at Boro who've nowt to play for, yes. Could we beat a QPR side just waiting for the following match not wanting injuries/suspensions, yes. Other results have in the main gone for us in recent weeks. So can we have an 'until it's mathematically impossible' promise until that moment arrives. From now til then I'm self imposing an amnesty on posts of a 'we're already down' nature. Anyone joining me?
i think we will go down. but then i've thought that since probably the bournemouth match. it's not stopped me hoping we'd get out of it, but i never really thought we would. that said, i'm not getting stressed about it. i'll be back in League 1 and maybe we'll start to win more than we lose. too many people getting a tad too aggressive all round. worse things are happening.
We'll go to boro keeping it tight with negative tac tics and formation hoping to nick it 1-0, do you honestly think that will work and result in us winning the game if so why when it's not worked often enough in the last 4 months
Not really. Those tactics that people are describing as so negative have seen us win 3 of our last 5 away games. But for a penalty miss we could have added another draw to the points tally. When does a Barnsley team ever get that kind of return away from home? I wouldn't say you're being blindly optimistic mate. I don't think a result at Middlesbrough is such a fanciful notion. Doesn't mean we'll win, but we have a fair chance. If QPR come and park the bus in front of goal we'll not score, because we haven't got the quality to break them down, but they won't do that, they'll attack us. If they're as good as Leicester they'll easily beat us, but they're not, they're almost 20 points behind them, so again we have a chance.
Our tactics away from home have been generally okay but at home they have been wrong, just totally and utterly wrong. No goals in almost nine hours and very few shots even.
I'd have to agree. Take the last 7/8 results and swop the home/away results. So 4-1 2-1 3-2 home wins and 1-0 2-0 away defeats etc and I'm not sure anyone would be criticising the tactics/formation. It has been so frustrating scoring well away from home but going 8+ hours without so much as a shot on target in most games.
Re: looking at all the remaining fixtures. I've given up to be honest. It's midtable (at best) ale house football for us for many a long year. That wonderful day at Cardiff has been wasted season after season by ineptitude and a lack of vision or direction. I just hope we don't fall into terminal decline and drop straight through mate.
I still hope we can get out of it and the very fact that we still can get out of it without needing a mathematical miracle shows just how **** this league has been but it still gives me hope. My heart has hope but in my head I believe we are dead and buried.
OK I'll play along as well though I am not going with the mathematically impossible as a Draw on Saturday and Backpool and Birmingham both losing means we arent mathematically down but in reality we are as we need a 17 goal swing to stay up on goal difference and that wont happen. But at least for this week I will keep up some form of optimism and if we win at Boro - keep it up - unless other results have sent us down
Since we have been back in the Championship, under all managers, every time we have shipped goals we have tried to tighten up the defence and when this is achieved ,to some extent, we have found ourselves scoring and creating less. We are still striving to find the balance IMO.
Totally agree mate, we never seem to be able to get the balance right, the fact that we've been in the bottom 3 all season speaks volumes
