The down side of that is their heart is not in the club... .putting wilson to one side, In a perfect world ideally barnsley owned run by barnsley folk players barnsley bred be that local lads or acadamy lads through the system We dont live in a perfect world as we are all aware what we have is a manager whos track record shows he plays flowing football blends youth and experience no matter where hes been, his teams have always been pleasant on the eye.....note i said HIS Teams... I can hear it now ...we are not playing attractive football...and i agree but the man can only use what tools are at hand and we all agree the tools we have at the club are not up to standard.... tools.....most of which are only here because of friends of friends and the fact previous off the field policys. when danny joined he had a clear out of some of the dead wood and dead wood it was on paper the players brought in were of a high standard than what we had and to some extent were all that were available at the time.....even mansford admits in hindsight they maybe should have waited but time was against them.. Dannys hands have been tied to what system he can play...anybody can see this team cant play fast paced passing football ( derby run rings round us yesterday) when we try certain players dont have the flair or ability to compete at this level.... give wilson time, let him work his magic and i bet this time next year weve seen a better hard working quality team display from all involved.
In general our loans have been poor this season, possibly one of the main reasons we will end up relegated.
Allan Clarke spent a lot of money and wasn't a cheap appointment. Admittedly he was a breath of fresh air and galvanised both the Club and the community and I can totally see where you're coming from. I'm not sure we'd have the resources to do that any more.
Survival tactics Yes to some extent but way too negative especially in the big games last Saturday being a good example. There have been alternatives in relation to team selections but Wilson has stuck to the same personel and hasn't utilised them. Comparing the end of last season to this one is like chalk n cheese. One where the players were up for it galvanised and positive. This one where the players showed no ambition, no desire to press teams and a look of disjointedness.
A policy which the club need to address. Seem to remember a statement a few year ago from the club stating a desire not to rely on the loan system but that is what they have done.
I think the (over) reliance on the loan market rather than the longer term view of bringing our home grown players through has been driven by short term expectations from the fanbase. We need some stability to rebuild the finances and the way that the club operates. Danny's going to be our Jim Iley and in a few years time when he's stabilised us and moved on you may get your wish for an Allan Clarke for the 21st Century.
