for me would be: Steele Cranie M'Voto Dawson COG (unlikely - fire sale) JOB Jennings (unlikely - fire sale) Cywka , unless anyone offers over £500k... unlikely & then go for the youngsters..
I'd be shocked even though they are under contract if any of Jennings, COG, Cranie and Steele were here still next season. Despite their indifferent seasons they will think division 3 is below them. Hopefully JOB gets another contract. Been here four years now and seems to like it. First one by a long way to sign for another two years last time which held him in good regard.
If we could keep Etuhu, Cranie, M'Voto, Cywka and Jennings, I think we'd have the beginnings of a decent side.
Could someone do our best XI from the last five years so that we can see all the decent players that have already got away leaving us with the shower of ***** residue that is taking us down? It comes to something when you're going down from the championship with players you don't think are good enough for the division below.
I cant answer that until I know where we will be playing next season there are a few players I would let go if we manage to stay up but would keep if we drop down a league Kennedy and Dawson are 2 that spring to mind Some such as Steele Jennings and I now think MVoto I would keep whichever league we are in and some such as Mellis McCourt and Frimpong wont be here either way round Id like us to keep Cranie and CoG but dont think we will if we go down - Jennings and Steele I think we can hang on to
Said to my mate that Mellis and Frimpong will never play as high as the Championship again. If by some miracle we do stay up, those two would be the first out of the door, regardless.
Assuming we get relegated, I think if any of our contracted players want to leave and we're able to obtain a satisfactory fee for them, they'll go. Although I'd prefer them to stay, I expect Steele, Cranie, O'Grady & Jennings to leave. It'll certainly be interesting to see who (if any) is offered a new contract when their current deals expire this Summer.
If we lose the likes of Jennings and ogrady then best we get ready for another season of struggle albeit a division lower! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
steele will stay seems to like it here and loves the club cranie will go to another championship team Jennings n cog could stay still contracted Jennings has two year left I think but if they are tearing league one teams a new hole next season and someone comes in with a offer of 50p n a bag o wine gums we wont see them for dust come next jan
With Jennings having two years left on his contract, it is imperative that we keep him no matter what, and try to build a side round him. If we don't go up then we can cash in next summer.
Ben mentioned player power is still prevalent, and if players want to leave then leave they would. If we drop id expect Steele Crainie, COG, JOB, and Jennings all to jump ship..
My two penneth, for what it's worth. Cranie will leave I reckon, regardless of the league we're in. It took Flicker quite a while to convince him to stay last summer and I can only imagine he's regretting that decision now, given the other offers he will undoubtedly have had. This lad is by far our best player in my opinion and should be playing at a club in the top half of the Championship. Should we go down though, he'll have 2 relegations on his CV - not good. Contrary to what most others think, I reckon Steele will stay. I think he's committed to the club and will give it another year. Also I can't imagine his services are particularly well sought after in the Championship, especially considering the amount of goals we've conceded. O'Grady's an interesting one. I think he's overrated by some of our fans and is not the complete striker I thought he was this time last season. He seems to be really lacking in pace for this league and he doesn't pose enough of a threat, for enough of the time, in my opinion (especially up top on his own). Nevertheless, he is a proven goalscorer at this level and does have some good attributes, so somebody might come in for him; perhaps a newly promoted team or a team in the bottom half. I'd probably sell if a good offer came in because I can only imagine he'll want to leave if we go down anyway. Reckon Jennings might stay! He's only ever played at League1 level really and hasn't shown enough in the Championship for a team to take a gamble on him + he's on a long contract. I reckon we're as good a place as any for him next season. Wouldn't surprise me either way with Cywka. Robins at Huddersfield was sniffing around in January, so that could re-ignite. My retain list would be: - Steele - Cranie (will probably leave) - O'Brien - M'Voto - O'Grady (will probably leave) - Mellis - Cywka - Jennings - McCourt (I'd love to see him stay but Danny clearly doesn't fancy him so I can't see it happening - he'll end up back in the SPL) - Nyatanga - Hassell + young lads. - McLaughlin (Would be great to get him back but he'll want Championship football) - Frimpong (He's a good player for me but if his attitude isn't right for the Championship, it certainly won't be for League1) I would happily move Kennedy & Dawson on but no doubt they'll be here.
agree with most of what you say there apart from retain mellis and mcourt you need grafters and lads who get stuck in week in week out heart of a pea spings to mind with them two neither seem to care about the club least dawson puts a shift in.
Good point tbf that but maybe they could offer something different. I forgot Kelvin - I'd probably keep him on.
