Ronnie Moore said that McNumpty was on £3,750 per week and I bet he was at the lower end.

I've no way of proving it but I'd be shocked if Reuben's on less than a grand a week.

I know that Dawson's parents were boozing in the Mount (seriously) when they came over to see him at Christmas time in 2012 & were saying that the money was ***** & barely an increase on what Orient pay but he came for the chance to play at this level & the cost of living up here was less.

I think we've many players who came from the lower leagues in a similar position.

So we paid hardly anymore than a club whose gates are 1/3 of ours and get about £2m less in tv money. To be fair I bet they make more money through their commercial activities so on reflection it cook be true.

No he is not , O`Grady and Cranie are on a fair bit more apparently. Frimpong is now the best paid player at Oakwell. TK is on same as Steele and Mellis and Cywka.

I'm not sure to be honest. And barely anymore could be £500 a week in footballers terms I guess.

Maybe that's why he had to resort to spot fixing eh? ....

Criminal if true, he should be made to pay back every penny.

I was told that he was on around 4k a week so not bad money for any of them.

If you look at the last accounts the club published you can work out the average wage - take a guess on some of the younger players and staff and the average for the first team will be somewhere in the region of £4000-£5000.

However you work it out we are definitely well below the Championship average wage but I'd say we'll be capable of paying a little bit above the average wage for League One - so we'll be competing at least.

Nahthen, GFT! An afternoon in the company of Mrs GFT would be perfectly charming. You just need to let her know who's boss. So tell her she is straight away!

I've come to this view. The early bird offer is fine if you're not bothered whether Danny stays, or whether we keep the gutless under-performing mercenaries that the Chuckle Brothers assembled. They don't give a s**t, so I don't see why I should. On the other hand, if, by 30th June we have confirmation that a) Danny is staying to undertake the Lazarus Project and b) All but a handful of the present wastrels have been shown the door, then I think it's worth paying £35 extra to make your choice armed with that information. Short of that, I'm likely to take the view that four-legged athletes are more reliable/entertaining than our present bunch of two-legged ones!

And another thing: couldn't we revert to being called 'Barnsley St Peter's' (brand identity and all that!)?

I once overheard a certain regular for us in the 08/09 season say he was 'on 12K' and I presumed by the tone in which he said it, that that was per month. I'd always assumed the average player was on somewhere between 3 & 4K a week although that could have dropped in recent times.

I can't remember where I saw it, but there is a strong correlation between wage budget and final league position across football. This worked in a lot of leagues worldwide - except places that have salary caps. Those teams with the most money could attract the best players and finish higher up the league.

Unfortunately while we can only afford the lower end of Championship wages we will continue to appear at the lower end of the table - and if we are middle of L1 wage budgets then chances are we will finish mid-table.
