Makes sense I suppose. Some players travel ages and aren't right in training. 25 miles is some radious though. Going from the edge of the boundaries could take you to Manchester or maybe Harrogate.
I don't see how they can make this work. Surely the distance to work is a matter for the individual? I travel over 30 miles to my office and I am usually in work by 08:30 (not mid morning like footballers) so it is not a problem in my opinion. The club should treat them as individuals and adults, if somebody can't get in on time or is affected by the distance then there are procedures to deal with the problem.
Cutting it fine and depends whether done as the crow flies or by road distance - Clowne to Grove street is 28 miles according to google maps Actually I would have thought a travelling time is a better idea than just distance You could live in Heathersage - t'other side of Sheffield 24 miles away and its an hours drive but not Weatherby ( 35 miles and 40 mins ) but it depends how rigidly its enforced I can see the logic if its done sensibly though - but what about loanees from Stoke - do they have to move?
Aye, but if you got into work every day on time but your performance was poor because you had to be up earlier than everyone else then they'd have a problem. Or in this case longer travel means lesser physical performance. It's sensible.
Makes sense. Not sure how many of our recent players live in Barnsley. I thought most live/d in Leeds like Colace did or Sheffield. Perkins lived at Gateway Plaza but despite living probably the closet (I imagine) to our training ground some would say it didn't show in his performances.
I thought this was the case at most clubs. Players will tend to rent a house nearer the club they play for.. Makes sense to insists its within a certain radius. I suppose a bit of common sense is used. If we sign a player living 30 miles away I doubt they will make him move within the radius. If we sign a player living 100 miles away then there's no problem insisting he moves within 25 as he will be moving anyway
I can't see a problem, anyone who does a lot of driving will know the effect it has if you try & exercise after (stiffness, more prone to injury etc). If you were playing for Barnsley would you really want to be driving from much further than Leeds or Sheffield anyway? I remember Perkins saying he was moving to Barnsley as the drives from Lancashire were effecting his game.
Bobby Robson did same thing at Newcastle he told all players they had to live in Newcastle, Newcastle not within 25 miles because he lived 25 miles away bobby actually lived in Newcastle like he wanted the players to do if he tells players that are at the club now they have to move they'll tell him to fu ck off and tell him they'll move when he dose
