It's not about pies n pasties..... granted its a bit to be thinking about. It takes 5 mins to fettle a pie. I'm on about entertaining folk for upto 2 hours before 3pm!
I like this post, it's crying out for something, and I'm defo one of those that wants it and feels it most. Since I've been in my early 20's the whole Oakwell match day experience for me has been exactly the same and got steadily worse to the point where I actually find the walk the ground, standing around in lower east concourse for 15mins utterly sole destroying. I only have two mates same age who support tykes and they might go for a beer beforehand once a season for one reason or another. What I would absolutely love is a proper supporters pub built behind east stand, however I appreciate that this probs won't happen and could be costly. Failing that then, let's look at the east stand lower concourse for a minute. It's cold, open, and absolutely devoid of anything entertaining, a truly dreadful space. Let's start by making it weather proof and creating a more sheltered space. Let's put in a ceiling to hide the ghastly fire proofed upper tier. Give the whole space a vibrant look, red paint obviously, let's get some images downstairs whether pictures or canvasses of legends. Currently the one of Perkins, Moneybourne and Jason Jason are embarrassing, good but ultimately painfully out of date. Like Jay said, and this I totally agree with. Let's start supporting local produce and ale makers. Don't have to be from Barnsley, get Thornbridge, Magic Rock on board. People ain't necessarily looking for cheap, but quality. I'd have no probs paying 4 pound for a bottle of. Jaipur or Cannonball. Gets some local made quality pies, get some quality sausage rolls etc. we are a South Yorkshire side in gods country, Yorkshire. The farm food and produce must be abundant. Get big tvs on loud showing live football, get bar stools set up, create an area where you want to park your ass for an hour n half before kick off The above would be very inexpensive I'd say. Get a local architectural uni student or interior design to help out and do it as part of their studies There you go
That's part of our proposition. It'll become more relevant over the next few weeks. Cheers for the passionate and genuine reply
Like. Also why not get Toby in there to entertain the kids? Or some of the academy lads to teach some ball skills? All these YouTube videos the club produces could show on loop on the tvs if there's no match to show. Get player interviews on them too.
This too! I'm fed up of spending money on **** generic food that's overpriced and under quality. Get some local pies in there, maybe allow someone to do jacket potatoes or similar stuff. I'd happily spend 50p to £1 more for decent stuff (though I think the price is probably at the right level now, it's the quality that isn't).
Get some face painters in there every week. Get some T shirt cannons and fire some shirts into the crowd, or cheer leaders throwing them in there. Mascot race Toby v who ever the away team have. Better food why not see if a restaurant or takeout in tarn wants a space in there. Not just 1 4 or 5 different vendors, one place for hot dogs, barbq, burger pizza kebabs, fish and chips. ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE
Spot on. Take a leaf out of the American sports model plus keep the kids happy. If the kids are happy and entertained then the parents are much more likely to attend and open their wallets.
Other things they could do. First 1000 fans through certain gates get a cap or a T shirt or a BFC player bobblehead. Make people want to come it shouldnt be a chore it should be an experiance.
The ironic thing is this is the kind of thing I'm saying should have been happening for ages in order to increase our spending power / reliance on PC I think he should have driven it instead we've just wallowed along
not to do with before the game but the half time stuff could really do with some work, the current half time 'competition' for the kids is just pathetic. Why can't they do it in the ponty end goals? They're just kids they're hardly gonna smash lumps out of the turf and it would be more memorable for the kids as well as entertaining the crowd (slightly) more. Then if the players are gonna just walk around passing the ball amongst themselves like it's a stroll in the park why not set them on doing something a bit more exciting, as stupid as it sounds when Vaz Te used to practice his 'free kicks' it was at least something to watch and it created a bit of banter between him and the crowd. Why don't they introduce some kind of raffle where you can pay £1 or something and stick your name in a hat and if it gets read out you can go on the pitch and join in the kickabout with the players ? there's so many things we could do before, during and after games that it's unbelievably frustrating to think that someone at the club is actually getting paid to come up with the (lack of) stuff we have now.
How about, instead of half time draw ( outdated and boring). How about some sort of interactive money draw/competition, I'm sure someone could come up with better, but "open the box' is a good starter. To try and get people in, maybe done on seat number? If you are in your seat before kick off you get chance to win some club merchandise for free. Free entry you just have to be in your seat, might get people spending a bit of cash before game.
An half time game with two under 11 teams every week , gets young ones interested , and good experience for young ones to play on pitch too
Who knows?!? It'll be a proposition, a sharing of ideas, a suggestion?!? I've researched my initial ideas and its minimal costs. It's really simple. Just needs someone to take the mantle on.
