Nine-figure? what, 100,000,000(one hundred million), who did he buy Messi/Ronaldo?...soz only joshing.
vaz te,butterfield and although drinkwater wasn't our player was sold under our noses. your maths wayward as well
Butterfield sold in July, Drinkwater was not our player and could have been recalled by his parent club with 24 hours notice. That's the risk you take with loan signings. One player was sold in January and he brought in three replacements.
He's got less points this season than he did in his full season with us, despite the larger budget. It was a general consensus at the time that the football under Robins was dire and he wanted more money than the club were willing to stump up. We've been in that position before, the club have learnt from their mistakes. We've stayed in the division twice since then, on arguably an even leaner budget. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
fair enough but i think we all knew butterfield wasn't returning to us after his injury big rumours he would have gone in january. drinkwater was not our player but we had just signed a season long loan so close to the transfer deadline and if he hadn't made a potential championship club look ordinary he would almost certainly have finished season with us
True he didn't have half his team sold, but he did lose key players from a team that was doing well. I certainly dont remember you moaning too much about the team up until xms that season Drinkwater recalled vaz te sold Butterfield injured( would have been sold) Perkins injured long term O'Brien Injured long term Hill lost the whole of his midfield that season. I agree he was ***** the season after but things could have been so much different in his first season and I dont understand why people try to deny that
Oh I was. I started moaning after he lost his first three home games, made his "what history" comment and called us all ****s. That was early doors.
We lost our entire midfield in the space of a fortnight. Vaz Te was sold, Drinkwater recalled, Perkins and Butterfield were injured for the rest of the season, and O'brien was out for a good 2 months. That said though, not enough was done to replace these players imo. After all we only brought in one midfielder. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Tonge, Smith and the crap winger who plays for Donny whose name I have completely forgotten. That's three midfielders he brought in.
Hill had exactly the same hand as every other Barnsley manager in my life time with the exception of first time round Clarke. A Lower budget than most and having to sell his best players. The difference is that the rest didn't whine about it just got on with it. Injuries happen to all teams, loanees who excel are recalled. It's the way of things. hill has his qualities but was a terrible fit for us from the start and proved completely inadequate.
Keith had the same problem Wilson has had this year. It's bloody difficult to get decent players in during January. You've simply got to take gambles on loanees & more often than not they fail. There's a massive difference between been 'backed' in January than in the summer when you've got thousands of free agents knocking about who you can take on trial for 2-3 weeks. Keith shouldn't be judged harshly on the January-May period after he lost his midfield but he should be criticised for August - December as he got it wrong when he had the time to bring players in. In the same way Wilson shouldn't be judged harshly on January-May. He should get a clean slate to rebuild
