Fair play to the lad, it's who he plays for. He's not from Barnsley either so why fans think he should show some sort of loyalty to us is beyond me. We were just a step in his career, we should have offered him an appropriate contract if we really wanted to keep him, we didn't so he left, time people got over it.

I'd love him to come back to us personally. No booing from me.

    Bang on.

Greedy is Ashley Cole leaving Arsenal for rivals Chelsea for just 5k a week more than what Arsenal offered when he was already a multi millionaire not what Butterfield did

If that's the case then it looks like the attitude was that they should be grateful for playing for Barnsley.

No wonder we get/got dry loved in the transfer market.

We didn't know the full details, but there were plenty of us questioning the folly of waiting until December to offer Vaz Te and Butterfield new contracts. It just seemed barmy to us. Dig out Supertyke's posts. He was going apoplectic for months over the Butterfield contract issues.

I thought Drinkwater handled it the best. Scored a goal and celebrated with the Leicester fans. Then at the end of the game came over to our fans and clapped. Did his work for the team that employs him now, but made sure he didn't forget where he'd been in the past. That's showing respect to everyone.

I'm an adult, I can cope with someone showing emotion when they score a goal. I actually find not celebrating a goal more disrespectful. Does the player think I'll have a mental breakdown if he scores? I won't, enjoy it, just don't give us the finger.

There are good ways to leave a club, though - look at John Stones. I don't know of a single BFC fan not wishing him well in his future endeavours.

Barnsley fans, except the retarded '[insert name here] is Judas' ones, are used to our best players being sold after a good season or less. I seem to remember (and correct me if I'm wrong) a few McPhail-esque "lack of ambition" soundbites from Butterfield as well as some squabbling on social media prior to his departure.

If I left a football club who paid my wages, no matter what the circumstances, I'd try and leave on good terms. You never know when you may need to win over the fans/staff/club the next time. By all means celebrate the schadenfreude with a few shandies behind closed doors but at least look like you have class. That's why I'll never had any respect for mediocre journeymen like Wiseman - shut up and get on with it - you're only ever one knee injury away from joining us plebs in the stands.

You're right actually. I take that back. Best outfield player then.

Let's get on thing straight here he was not the best player on the pitch yesterday. To say he was average would be stretching the truth

Good lad :p Personally i thought he was decent enough but was playing against a woeful midfield that got walked through way too easy. I have no ill feeling towards him, anyone who wouldn't want to better there prospects or wallet in a short career is either a millionaire or a buffoon
