Can't stand the man anyway - but I don't quite get this apology. Did he use the 'N' word or not ?

Who cares only people offended by that word are white people because they think black people are offended by the word but it's not the word black people don't like, it's white people using the word that they don't like, it seems to be accepted by most black people same as any other word when a black person uses it, but it's seen as racist when a white person uses it, discrimination at its worst if you ask me, it's only a racist word when a certain race uses it, in my mind it's ether racist or it's not, if it's racist everyone should be punished in the same way for the use of it, until then I'll continue to see the offence caused by this word as a load of made up ******

Clarkson is such an idiotic **** so good. And there's obviously a difference between the positive affirmation of reclaiming a derogatory word and using the same word as a lazy insult.

the same word has been put back into the film The Dambusters, Guy Gibsons dog. black folk can use the word freely without rebuke and yet its offensive when a middle aged WHITE guy use it in VERY OLD NUSERY RHYME (possibly centuries old). its not words its attitudes that cause the damage

There should be no difference; if it is offensive and derogatory for one man to use the word then it should be the same for all men regardless of colour.

Look, he didn't say it, end of. He didn't want to say it. He mumbled the syllables. He's apologised in case anyone was offended by how it sounded. To me, it is just mumbling. He obviously took the allegations very seriously. It's simply all because it is him. One rule for one...

    What a fuss about nothing

    Good golly!

Clarkson's little rhyme offended nobody until some professional umbrage seeker chose to publicise it. It's that person who should be vilified, not Clarkson.

    I'd have chosen the Subaru.

Re: What a fuss about nothing

The prime minister's friend won't be sacked by the BBC, which is headed up by former Tory governor of Hong Kong Chris Patton. Given that Top Gear is one of the most profitable programmes produced by the BBC and sold world wide, I can foresee grovelling apologies, and then a return to business as usual.

It has nothing at all to do with whether he has or hasn't offended anyone, or whether he is morally right or wrong (if there is such a thing any more), it's about who he knows and how much money is involved.

If he was a young controvertial presenter without connections on a failing show the BBC would take the opportunity to shelve both him and the show.

I don't give a ****, whether it is a white person, black person, hispanic person or the Dalai Lama who said it, the word is used generally as a racist slur and you can't really get on your high horse to say its ok when a black person says it. The crux of the issue to me is whether the word was said to offend, it doesn matter who said it, was the intention to offend anyone?

At the end of the day it is just a word afterall, however its a word that has a great deal of history and negative connotations attached. I've not watched it, but from what I have read, he's said it, not to offend per se but stupidly in this nursey rhyme.

He's been naive if anything, but I'd be surprised if he said it to offend anybody, so it's another storm in a tea cup, where everyone gets their knockers in a twost.

EDIT - Ive just watched it, he doesnt even say it, **** me what a none story.

Exactly it was never broadcast - there wasnt anything to possibly offend anyone until the Mirror dragged it up to try to cause an upset - and I concur with the other posters - a non white uses a word in a song with no one saying a thing - a white guy mumbles something which may have been the word but probably wasnt and its a front page witch hunt - thats where the racial offence is coming from

    There are African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Asian-Americans, Arab-Americans, Native-Americans, etc….. and then there are just Americans.

You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You call me White boy, cracker, honkey, whitey, caveman” …..and that’s OK.

But, when I call you ******, kike, towelhead, sand-******, camel jockey, beaner, gook, or chink, you call me a racist.

You say that Whites commit a lot of violence against you, but why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?

You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Martin Luther King Day. You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day. You have Ma’uled Al-Nabi. You have the NAACP. You have B.E.T.

If, we had W.E.T. (White Entertainment Television), we’d be racists. If we had a White Pride Day, you would call us racists. If, we had White History Month, we’d be racists. If, we had any organization for only Whites to advance our lives, we’d be racists.

You have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain, old Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that?

If we had a college fund that only gave White students scholarships, you know we’d be racists. There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US,…… yet, if there was just one “White college” that would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.

You are proud to be Black, Brown, Yellow, and you’re not afraid to announce it, but when we announce our White pride, you call us racists.

You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a White police officer shoots a Black gang member, or beats up a Black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.

I AM proud. But, you still call me a racist.

Why is it that only Whites can be racists?
