If we're not happy once the retained list is publicised, can we get a refund on season tickets? Should it be a consumer right?
No. I will be very disappointed but not surprised. Don't think I can bear to watch him miscontrolling every ball that comes his way for another two years. What do you see in him Mario? You say he gives his all (which I'm not convinced of), but you would put more effort in than he does. As would I. Would that makes us good enough?
I just like his attitude on the pitch. Maybe if we'd have performed better as a team this season his shortcomings would have been more evident but in a team that has had more than its fair share of idle tossers players like Dawson get my respect.
It's easy to attempt to hide the fact you're pretty awful by running around pretending to care...to be fair better under Wilson but every attempt to control the ball is like a shot. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
We would for the first 5 minutes. And then we'd be knackered, bent double and trying to breathe through our arsehole. We'd spend the rest of the game wandering about like a Llama on crack, never getting within 20 yards of the ball. Dawson is not the greatest footballer we've ever had, not by a long way, but I think your questioning of his application and effort is really unfair. Does that mean we should re-sign him? No, it doesn't. I wouldn't offer him a new contract. But I don't feel the need to continually slag off someone who is limited but tries his best.
Up to you Jay, but he's taking very good money for a job he's clearly not up to. By a long chalk and a perceived level of effort doesn't change that. Completely disagree with the first 1.5 lines of your post too.
Even before finding out if Demon Dawson had re-signed...If he hasn't I promise not to invoke a cooling off period...
He was offered a contract and he's tried to fulfil his role to the best of his ability. He's not conning anyone, he's doing his best. However fit you think you are, you're kidding yourself if you believe you're up to the pace of the professional game. I played quite a bit of football with and against Nicky Eaden. The fat lad who couldn't run. Not now we're both old and knackered, we were at 6th form college at the same time. He's 8 months younger than me. I was pretty decent at football, not professional standard, but school teams and all that. I was fit, very fast and strong as I carried coal from being 14. I could physically dominate most players of my age, even if I didn't have the skill. I couldn't get anywhere ******* near Nicky Eaden. Marking him was like trying to mark a ghost. I was knackered watching him, never mind chasing the bugger. I don't care how much cycling or running or amateur football you do, it's just not the same level at all.
I think people very readily underestimate just how astronomically far ahead of the bloke on the street any professional footballer is. I went to school with a couple of lads who went on to join professional clubs. Paul Holland of Chesterfield and Sheffield United. Slow, clumsy, one dimensional, immobile, overweight Paul Holland. Except he wasn't. He was lean, quick, insanely strong, and didn't have an ounce of fat on him. I never played against Paul as he is a few years older than me, but I did play with and against Jason Sedland. A right winger, technically Jason was in my opinion even better than Paul. Lightning fast, slightly built but very powerful with a blistering shot and the ball stuck to him effortlessly like glue. I also remember him hitting the bar with a full volley from out on the right wing, not far inside the opposition half during a school match. He was so far above the level of the rest of us it wasn't funny, and this included some lads who'd been on Forest's books as schoolboys. Yep, I was good mates with THE Jason Sedland. The Jason Sedland who made two substitute appearances for Mansfield Town before being released. And it wasn't for the want of trying either. A lovely lad with a really good attitude, Jason Sedland the world beater was just not quite good enough for Mansfield Town.
is the retained list announced next week? Will it also mention if the club has offered contracts to some of the out of contract players?
I don't get all this criticism of Dawson. I know you get a different view from the Ponty, I didn't realise you saw a different game though! Dawson has been one of our better players this season, getting stuck in effort, commitment and often the only player actually doing owt in our ***** midfield. Yes, he's limited, but so are many others. You are bordering on an obsession like Hemmsy has with Steele.
Wants to try but runs out of class and talent every time he needs it most. I can hear the needle hitting the limiter... ding ding ding... In the championship we could do a lot better than him but in league one? Maybe he would be a decent player. Who knows.... At least Danny has been there recently with Sheff Utd so has experience.
I didn't start this thread with anyone particular in mind to be honest. Mario brought Dawson into it. I could say the exact same thing about your view in the East Stand if you think he's been anything other than completely useless. He will probably win one tackle today which he will get a rapturous round of applause for, conning people into thinking he has had a good game when it was just an aberration in a performance of ineptitude.
I'm no great fan of Dawson but anyone who thinks that the level of athleticism needed to play football is that of the ordinary fella on the street is just daft. I had a game or two against 'Oakwell legend' Colin Marshall never got anywhere near him. Likewise played with journeyman footballer Colin Morris a couple of years couldn't keep up with the speed of his thought for him to pass to me. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Doesn't change the argument though. We're talking application not achievement, so the fact that a Barnsley fan would give his all, as Dawson allegedly does, then that's all we can ask for. Tragic really.
