Tom Kennedy should never wear a barnsley shirt ever again.......I will not come back to Barnsley while he plays.

No one will sign him. He's one of our top earners. He'll not take a pay cut to leave and no one will offer him anything like what we're paying him, so we're stuck with him.

Keith Hill only signed him on a temporary contract and rarely played him. He started 3 games and came on as sub once. His contract was up at Christmas and he looked all set to leave. Flicker took over, gave him a contract to the end of the season and then a further two year contract in the summer.

I don't think Keith Hill would want Kennedy if we paid Rochdale to have him.

We could try, but why would he go? He's got a good contract with us.

Serious question about Kennedy - as someone who has seen him only a few times and thought he looked weak but not completely diabolical, is he in the Paul Gibbs league of atrocious left backs?

Different player altogether. Gibbs gave plenty of effort, but lacked the basic skills. Kennedy is actually quite a tidy footballer. Not brilliant or anything, but there's nothing wrong with his close control, he can play a simple pass to feet and we use him for a lot of our set pieces. He's not as bad as some will have you believe. However, he is often a weak link. Not always, he's had some decent games since Wilson took over, but he's probably had just as many poor ones.

He often gives his marker far too much space, allowing him to turn and run at Kennedy at pace. Once you let a player do that it's difficult for even the most accomplished defender to deal with, which Kennedy isn't. So he tends to lose any advantage before the situation has got dangerous. I know why he does it. He doesn't have the confidence in his own ability, he's often easily turned when he does get tight, so he drops off, knowing at least he'll be providing some kind of barrier if he does that. To be fair to him, in some games this season that tactic has worked and he has got the tackles in, but it's such a difficult way to play, relying on himself to produce a perfectly timed challenge and all too often that hasn't happened, resulting in a chance or a goal for the opposition.

Far too often his crosses are simply floated in to the area, from both open play and set pieces. Even if one of our players can get on the end of them, they can't generate enough power to trouble the keeper. Occasionally he has whipped in a decent cross, but it's a rare event. It's as though he's scared to make a mistake. Whipping the ball in is a more difficult skill, it's much easier to hit the first man, or over hit the cross, or put it out for a goal kick. So Kennedy takes the safe option and floats it up there. By doing this, he can rightly claim the majority of his crosses get to the general area where he intends them. He's more accurate than Jennings for instance. But Kennedy's crosses rarely create a decent chance, even if they are in the right area, they're much too easy to deal with. Jennings fluffed a few of his crosses yesterday, but he kept trying to put some power on them or find a particular man and this resulted in O'Grady's first goal. Bree had one chance to knock a ball in to the box. He whipped it in and Rose really should have scored from it. I'd far rather see our players attempting to do the right thing and getting it wrong, knowing that maybe only 1 in 5 crosses will be accurate enough to causes the opposition problems, than watch Kennedy float the ball in to the right area 90% of the time, but only produce one decent chance every 10th game, if that.

Cheers for that assessment Jay. Fits exactly with what I thought last time I was at Oakwell (Bolton home last season). Kennedy was not particularly terrible, but always seemed too far away from his man, slightly out of position, and kept floating aimless balls down the channels.

If we are stuck with Kennedy, which we are, I hope Danny plays his preferred wing back system and moves him into the centre where I think he can play a Gary Fleming role reasonably well. With less defensive responsibility and less pressure I think he will be ok in League 1 in that role given his relative ease on the ball.

Of course in an ideal world he would be kidnapped by aliens or spontaneously combust but let's play the hand we are dealt.

Could be a bit dangerous if he spontaneously combusts bearing in mind the amount of hair gel he wears. The resulting inferno would engulf the first three rows of the West Stand and any supporters sitting there. Obviously the bloke he's meant to be marking would be pretty safe.

Bang on assessment. It boils my p.iss that we still allow him to take all the dead balls and corners. Every one of them a predictable waste. Cant anyone on the coaching staff see it?

Ha ha. Good point. Can we not get rid on the basis of health and safety, on the basis that we can't get a safety certificate for the west stand cos someone is WSL might strike a match and the whole place goes whooosh.
