...Danny will want next season. 442 - creativity in midfield next to someone who can get box to box, pace and width out wide with a big man/little man partnership up front. Genuinely excited for next season. Top half finish should be an expectation but it's certainly not guaranteed considering this FFP and 60% wages rule - unless we get shut of Cranie/Steele etc then a high % of his wages are gonna be tied up so we'll end up filling the squad around them which means it might be the second year where we really get to see his real squad. Whilst I'd want all of Cranie/Steele/Jennings/O'Grady to stay, we have to be realistic so I'd be looking to offload 'em if at all possible. But we're probably stuck with at least 2 of 'em and then there's Kennedy... Either way, he needs to be here for 3 years minimum. No complaints as long as we see a plan/a pattern of what we want to do. Biggest problem this pre season will be expectation - club need to learn from the (**** load) of mistakes last season and change things. We'll see.
So we're going to be the better team for most of the game, retain the vast majority of possession and then M'Voto is going to spoon one in to the back of his own goal. Can't wait. That lad who scored their first, he has 90 league goals in 148 starts. Danny Wilson signed him from non-league.
Top six should be bare minimum. The last two champions were both relegated teams. We should be aiming for the same.
At least it'd be entertaining... Danny knows what he's doing, regardless of what the idiots on here say.
Contracts signed outside League 1 are I think excluded from the Salary cap for their duration. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Agree. Aiming/expectation are two different things. Don't confuse them - it's not going to be as simple as people are expecting considering the **** we're in.
We've done the small club/aiming low mentality far too long and we've got what we deserve - abject failure. We need to reverse this and be ambitious, create a buzz and if needs be to be a little arrogant. Just can't see it happening with this regime.
I thought the players had relegation wage drop clauses? It may still leave the likes of Cranie and O'Grady as our top earners, but I'd rather see us keep hold of them and have a good go at it. It won't be easy, and I certainly don't expect us to walk the league or anything remotely like that, but Port Vale managed a top half finish after being promoted from League Two. No reason for us not to be aiming for the play-offs.
I agree with you Dyson, still think we can at least push for play offs though. The core of the team is decent. Next season could be brilliant, us, Sheff Utd, Donny & maybe Rotherham if they don't go up all in the battle for promotion
A top half finish would be classed as a successful season in my eyes. New recruits will need time to gel and I think everyone will have a clearer picture as to where were going by the end of the year. You state that Wilson needs to be here for 3 years minimum and I can see your logic in that opinion but my worry is he will persist with the Negative style to which we have become accustomed since his appointment. People will argue that he only played that style because of the players he inherited from the previous regime. I expect a completely different style from a Wilson assembled squad but if he persists with the same Tactics and Negative formations then the knives will quickly be out for a change.
bit harsh to blame big Jean for that goal really difficult ball to deal with and the guy behind him would have scored anyway I don't think either of the first 2 goals would have happened if we had a decent left back. He would be my scapegoat Doesn't alter the fact though that playing a midfield with some attacking intent shows how poor out defence is we conceded 3 and QPR didn't break sweat
[QUOTEDoesn't alter the fact though that playing a midfield with some attacking intent shows how poor out defence is we conceded 3 and QPR didn't break sweat[/QUOTE] Thats the crooks of the problem. we cannot defend. And its been like that ever since we came up. Sorry complete new back four needed, just cos Kennedy as a contract don't mean he has to play ever week. Andi i'm not having M'voto is the new found answer either. If we are to do owt bar struggle next season, a back four that knows how to defend is a must. No 1 priority..
but Conan consider this also Donny and Yeovil will also be looking at that expectation . As will the 3 teams who fail in the play-offs. Add to that Swindon and Sheff utd , they were not too far from the play-offs. Then maybe 1 or 2 of the ones promoted from league 2 may have the impetus to make a go of it .... suddenly we have 10 teams or so all expecting a top 6 finish. Also we will be starting next term with a hugely different squad...its going to take time to settle/gel etc.. top half is a good shout from Dyson IMHO. Also the shout to give Wilson a chance to take 2 or 3 years in the post to get the job right.... he took about that timescale last time he was here..... end result was the Premiership. No reason why he cannot take a similar time and get us back in the Championship, and that would do for me.
I've only seen the goals on TV, but I'd blame the full backs for both. However, in recent weeks, Big John has given a penalty away, ****** up for Boro's equaliser, lost a header against Leeds that they scored from and yesterday scored an own goal. He also missed a header from six yards out at Boro when it was 1-1. Not just missed, he cleared the bar easily when it was easier to score. I think he's improved since his recall, but I preferred him alongside Nyatanga. They built up a decent understanding in my opinion. Since Cranie returned, he's gone back to being dodgy in key moments. Cranie's 'defending' for QPR's third yesterday was bloody embarrassing. Wouldn't bat an eyelid if he left, especially if he's indeed THE high earner as speculated by in the know types.
I think it's something like players who were on long term contracts of at least 3 years, which includes Jennings, so don't think his wages would count. The others only had shorter deals and have a year left so may be included in the figures.
