Fair price for ogrady

According to here, he's values at about £625 - £700k.

They sold him for roughly the same amount they paid for him. He'd hardly pulled up trees at Wednesday. Plus they obviously didn't rate him or need him as they were ready to offer him out on loan with a view to a permanent sale.

 

Of course we could. But you want a team of committed players. If he's not happy about being told that, then what? Does Danny want an unhappy player in the dressing room? If he's not performing then fans get on his back, then he's not worth his place in the team and you have a player who you could have sold sat on the bench or not making the squad who you now cant sell because deals have been done.

Suarez situation is a bit apples and oranges as a comparison, and whilst i agree in theory with the rest of what you say, that's not how things work anymore. Look at it another way…

• Suppose you get an offer this week for £750k for O'Grady.
• You turn it down as it doesn't match the valuation of him, which for the sake of argument is £1m.
• The club make another offer of £850k.
• You turn it down.
• They then say they won't be perusing the matter.
• A few weeks before the start of the season a bid comes in for £1m.
• You accept the offer.
• You have money to give to Danny to spend on a player.
• Unfortunately all the players Danny would have chosen are now with other clubs and you're left hunting round the bargain bin trying to find someone to fit a hole.
• We get a replacement and he’s not up to much. Fans are upset, we don’t score goals and the money we have spent is possibly wasted.

Had you accepted the £850k Danny might have been able to buy a player as a replacement that he wanted. He’d have had weeks to sort one out and spend the money.

My view is if we get a bid for £750k for O’Grady we should sell. Give as much to Danny as possible and give him time to find a replacement.

People go on about players not giving a chuff playing for the club and how they should be out on their ear, but they are happy to let a situation arise where a play is made to stay at the risk of making him unhappy and not pulling his weight. Clearly if the bid is derisory then that's another issue, although given the vast range of numbers quoted on here, quite what his value is, is anyone's guess!

 

People talk about Liverpool and Suarez as if it's a valid comparison. They gave him a raise to 200 grand hence his agent backing off. Can't see us doing the same for COG...

He's the type of player who only knows one way & that's 100% effort every game

 

That's a complete crock - they also have his move to us down as a free transfer! (and Jimbo valued at £350k despite him being out of contract in a month).

We don't need to sell, £2m should be the price.
