They finished 7th in his first season. He scored 2 goals in about 40 games. They finished 20th in his second season, but he left after 20 odd games and 2 goals to join us. What is this success they speak of? A POTY award?
You said he was a success in League One. I look at his short time there and don't see a successful League One player. Before that, he was at Bury, before that Mansfield. He's the sort of laiker nobody wanted a year or so ago. Lower league *****. But now we're down there, he's a success in that division? I can't/don't understand. "he's experienced in League One" Which means, the player has spent years in that division. Because that's about as good as he'll ever be. We need players who are better than that. Just my opinion, pal.
So we signed a player for the Championship who was a duffer in L1? Course we did. He must have been doing fairly well. You can't rewrite history with the use of meaningless stats. My opinion.
There was a vote on here last season (just before his injury) and he was being mentioned as a likely winner of our POTY. I'm not saying he is Gazza or even Readers but he isn't as bad as some on here think he is.
You can't also slate Keith for **** signings but then laud said signings. Shirley? End of the day, I think we all agree that he's a very limited/average footballer. What we are arguing about, is whether we'd like him to stay.
We can give our opinion on each player. If I think keef brought a **** player in it doesn't mean I think they all are. I don't understand your point. He isn't great, no, probably not a championship player, but he will be ok in L1. He gives his all, which will be more of an asset in L1 than it can be in the championship. He's got 5 goals in 72 games for us, it's not a disgrace for a defensive midfielder, some of them go years wiart scoring. People are going way OTT in their reaction to our manager, the one we have put our faith in, wanting to keep him.
Bit repetitive lads think yer need a new routine. Cant rely on same owd diatribe to get yer through the Summer months.
What makes any of them defensive midfielders? Where they play on the pitch normally. 3 or 4 goals a season isn't terrible for a CM anyway, just look around.
It's hard to say what sort of midfielder he's meant to be. I wouldn't say a defensive one though. He's more the old box to box player isn't he? He's just not very good at it. Anyway if our attacking players are expected to defend and criticised for not doing so shouldn't the same apply to the less offensive ones. Fairs fair.
I think that's the end of it. Nowt I say will prevent him signing or enable him to get better. All I can do is hope that he doesn't sign or suddenly improves. What will be will be. The thought of watching him and TK again doesn't inspire me at all but again all I get for my money is the same piece of plastic each fortnight. Just hope the summer enthuses me a little...
There is normally a more attacking midfielder playing in front of him, ergo he is a DM in the modern game. And fair is fair, I don't deny he hasn't been up to the task in the championship (aalthough I do think he had a decent first season for us), it's a different conversation now though, we're in L1. Been done to death now anyway. I'm sure Conan will start a thread about him tomorrow though.
