But in light of Bobby's comments, the timing of this article appears a bit suspicious. Hope you were telling the truth Ben. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27189315
Too early to say - lets see who ( if anyone ) comes in and who goes out also whether any of the 3 offered contracts sign. We have no idea what the club are offering in general just that we offered Lawrence less than he thinks he can get elsewhere. If we cant offer competative salaries in league 1 though I will be unimpressed
I'm taking him at his word on this. The Club have backed every manager the best they can. That said, don't be surprised if that 'competitive' budget is heavily funded through player sales. Steele, Cog, Jennings, etc. We're £3m+ down. Money has to come from somewhere...
Assuming Bobby is referring to Lawrence, maybe we're still competitive but didn't want to blow our budget on a 32 year old that's not done much for a few years. Could just be that we didn't value him as high as he values himself, which is fair enough of course. Remember Lawrence has earned a lot of money throughout his career so might not be used to having to drop down now. Only a suggestion, if we really are offering ***** wages across the board then someone's got some explaining to do to the fans.
Jason wouldn't lie surely...he used to be a sports lawyer....and lawyers never lie do they....no never ever would he do this. hth
Define "competitive" - im sure wed get a few variations on what it is each of us means when talking about being so.
Only thing that concerns me is Flitcroft was backed with a lot of loans after all the players he resigned for another year or two turned out to be sh*t, then Wilson went for broke in January signing higher reputation players who also turned out to be sh*t - did we overspend forcing us to have to consolidate financially next season? Obviously saying that publicly wouldn't have done season ticket sales any good which would have compounded the problem further. This is my cynical view anyway, I've been supporting the club long enough to know that what they actually say in the media and what they do are two different things 99% of the time.
