Everything's gone quiet as to when it'll be held & who the opposition will be. The fact he's been released shouldn't adversely affect it taking place. Hopefully, it'll be arranged for sometime this Summer.
Ah, right. I'd not heard that one, mate. When we attended An Evening With Bobby Hassell back in November 2012 he said his preference would be Celtic, as they were the team he supported as a boy. He did add if we couldn't play them, he'd happily settle for Rangers!
We ideally want a club who'll bring a lot of fans. So I can see the logic in one of the Old Firm. Although, SYP got our Feyenoord (was it Feyenoord?) friendly scrapped t'other year didn't they, fear of crowd trouble or summat. Might be similar with Celtic/Rangers? Everton would be good. My favourite Prem club for obvious reasons. Not sure they'd bring many, mind. FWIW, I'm told that they've still no idea who they'll be playing, or when it'll be. Pre season is about as much info as they themselves know.
As well as the opposition still to be arranged, I was wondering whether we may see something along the lines of a Barnsley Select XI, which obviously would include Bobby?
With Bruce, Gorré, Steele, Foz, Hignett, Lawrence etc? And maybe his son - Bayley - to come on for him in the last minute...? Another B.Hassell at Oakwell, keeping the legend alive.
This. My last chance to see one of my heroes play for BFC at Oakwell. A chance to say goodbye (in football terms).
Good shout. Can't believe I forgot about Moore. I'd prefer it - selfishly - if they were ex Tarn though. I know he's pals with such as Linvoy and John Bostock etc, others of faith, but I think we saw them at the All Star match the other year. I'd like a BFC only flavour this time around. But, I'm sure it'll be a terrific event if Bruce has owt to do with it. His missus belting a few tunes out too. Looking forrad to it.
As Andy says elsewhere on the thread, a great opportunity to give an excellent servant of the club & community a terrific send off.
