GK: Hart, Foster, Forster DF: Shaw, Baines, Jagielka, Cahill, Johnson, Smalling, Jones, _______ MF: Lallana, Gerrard, Henderson, Barkley, Sterling, Milner, Lampard, ________ CF: Lambert, Sturridge, Rooney, Welbeck Backups: Ruddy, Stones, Carroll, Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Flanagan, ________ Dunno why we are bothered turning up
Guardian suggesting this is back up list •Andy Carroll (West Ham) •John Stones (Everton) •John Ruddy (Norwich) •Jermain Defoe (Toronto) •Michael Carrick (Man Utd) •Tom Cleverley (Man Utd) •John Flanagan (Liverpool)
If that's right then perhaps the 23 will be as above with ox and wilshere in where there are blanks. Looks like stones won't make it.
Re: F**** Lampard Who would you have in his place? Not exactly blessed with fully fit central midfielders? Could be useful to bring on with 20 mins to go.
Well there are three in the squad and one on stand by who are there purely because they play for Man United! I'd love a defender to drop out so that Stones can get called up (I wouldn't be surprised to see him get some game time in the warm ups just to give him experience, which may be a nice windfall for us), but then again, if he doesn't get called up it will save me having to be interested in any of the England matches!
At altitude & heat we need young players the 11 is already decided so its about taking additions that could make an impact, controversially I wouldve took a 5th striker and as I believe in picking players in form - Connor Wickham.
Re: At altitude & heat we need young players Just looking at the goalkeeping position is worrying, we really do struggle these days - oh for when Shilton and Clemance were vying for the shirt.
I'm not that arsed for what'll be 270 minutes of dissapointment! Well not really disappointment as that's got to be the underwhelming squad of English players available that I can ever remember.
Short memory then. Check out the 2012 squad. Far more underwhelmererererer. Goalkeepers - Joe Hart, Robert Green, John Ruddy. Defenders - Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Phil Jones, Joleon Lescott, John Terry. Midfielders - Gareth Barry, Stewart Downing, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott, Ashley Young. Strikers - Andy Carroll, Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck. Standby - Jack Butland, Phil Jagielka, Jordan Henderson, Adam Johnson, Daniel Sturridge
Nar gior. Young, Downing, Barry, Carroll? Ok I'll give you a John Terry and Walcott, but ones retired and one's injured so they weren't realistic contenders this time round anyway. With Lalana, Barkley, Sterling, Sturridge, Henderson etc we have at least this time got some players going into the tournament at the peak of their powers. Like I've put earlier, the only disappointing element of the squad for me is the defence which looks painfully thin.
