Looks like we are taking recruitment out of his hands anyway if the story of him wanting Lawrence and the board overuling him is true.

TK is correct, but it's extremely unlikely all those players he mentioned will be here next season.

Sounds promising but will the club deliver? Time will tell.

I don't really care if there's a head of recruitment or not, I've no idea how football transfers work properly so it might be a good idea. However, why is this person not already appointed? Does this mean we're going to be last to any decent signings again?

Head of Recruitment? Where has that come from?

Who knows. Maybe after the complete **** up of a January transfer window, it might not be such a bad idea..

Yeah Ben mentioned it the other day. I think it will include setting up a scouting network which the Head of Rectuitment will be responsible for as well as improving knowlege and identification of potential signings and improving the strategy around recruitment. I think the idea is that he'd work with the manager rather than taking recruitment out of his hands. Ben's mentioned before how important recruitment is and making the right decisions in this area. This hopefully will help make those decisions.

Sounds like a great idea, I've always thought out scouting pool was very small, it would be nice to sign players none of our competition are aware off.

Just so long as our 'scouting pool' isn't expanded to YouTube and the Football Manager database a la Davey... don't think I could cope with any more Mosttos or Werlings, and sure they wouldn't fit into the 'local feel' the club are trying to engender!

Hey, Werling was awesome, most powerful shot I've seen in some time :D

    Mostto on the other hand....

Happy with that. Longer term planning etc.

    Cheers.

A proper scouting network? Identification of a string of targets, whittled down using various parameters, to fit into Danny's plans. Headed by one individual who'll hopefully have little minions all over the country. Select players are then presented back to Danny who gives the go ahead, or not. Sounds old fashioned dunnit?

Beats the approach of the last few years.

"**** sake, I think we need a new centre half, Flicker.."

"I'll go through a list of players in the Greater Manchester area again, Hilly.."

"Good man. I'll go back through my black book of lads I've coached or managed."

"Special, mate. And if all else fails, we can get Gary Lloyd on the blower and recruit another of his clients.."

"Cracking idea, kid. The missus is moaning about needing a new kitchen... in fact, **** it, get Lloydy on the phone now. Tell him 30%."

"I'll get straight onto it. Right gaffer, I'm off out for dinner with TK, Polly and Daws now."

"No worries. Swimming lessons with Sydney for me."

A scouting network? Bloody hell I though they'd gone down with the Titanic.
We used to have scouts up in Scotland who brought us Jimmy Baxter, Jock Steele, Bob Doyle, Alistair Millar etc. The Robledo brothers and Danny Blanchflower were tremendous coups and lads signed from local football Mick Butler, Mick McCarthy, Dave Booth etc.
Non-league football e.g. Darren Sheridan and Martin Bullock
There'd be Barnsley scouts watching local matches every week and then all of a sudden they all disappeared and were replaced by Blunts, Owls, Huddersfield scouts.
The players we sign these days are usually from other clubs and you can see their portfolio on Youtube - Who was the last player to make the first team who was spotted outside the usual League circus by a scout? Probably Sheridan or Bullock nigh on 18 years ago

Most powerful shot into Row Z! Did think he scored one decent goal, but he was more of a professional Roberto Carlos impersonator than a professional footballer!

Ironically probably Scott Hogan by Hillcroft, now supposedly being looked at by Championship clubs after a good season at Rochdale. Although the fact that we invited him for a trial after he played well in a friendly against us, not to mention the fact that Hillcroft already knew him from his first spell at Rochdale, probably backs up your point!! (and Whitey's :) )

We could be the best team in League One, but not with "TK" at left back.

    **** off TK.

I don't think Davey's signings were too bad, was it him that signed those two Hungarians? Thought they were class and definitely kept us up that season, think it was 06/07.

Mostto obviously couldn't settle, imagine how difficult it would be for an Englishman going to play in Peru! Probably wasn't a bad player, something of a gamble to think he would settle here though. And Werling had a missile of a left peg on him, definitely left the opposition with a few bruises.

Suppose my point is we've had a lot worse! Taking a chance on an eastern-European who is trying his hardest to get recognised in England can be better than these journeymen-career footballers who are just happy to get a contract anywhere until they are 35 and then move into some cushy office job like a lot of them do these days.

I thought Davey's best attribute was his signings, signed some gems from nowhere. He just couldn't get any of them to play as well as he ought to have.
