Seen this mentioned in a couple of threads. Can someone actually explain to me why we need one? Or at least why some poeple seem desperate for one, i understand we could perhaps bring in some sponsorship through one but if it costs too much to put it up why would we bother? The current on does manage to tell us how long is left and the score. And oddly enough we did all manage without it before the prem

I agree, what is the obsession for a new scoreboard, I know the score because I'm there, and it's not very often I lose counts of how many goals have been scored. Also why keep harping on about tellys not working, I go to Oakwell to watch football not stare at a telly, could always do that at home.

Must be a out dated thing, but my match day "experience" is watching the game itself!

well obviously the cost does outweigh the revenue, which is why we won't be bothering. but we definitely need one. it's about modernising a football club, to make it attractive to both players and investors. had we stayed in the champ, we would have definitely had one. the current one is embarrassing to look at.

Professionalism. We look like a conference club in many respects.

For me I think it makes the club look amateur. A club that's been in the Championship for 8 seasons still has a scoreboard that can't even spell out 'Barnsley' any more. Bit of a joke to be honest. As mentioned earlier, were missing out on the perfect opportunity for sponsorship. An advert on a large screen looks better than an old piece of board around the pitch, IMO.

People want us to be more professional, but are happy to have a scoreboard that wouldn't look out of place on the conference?

    It's embarrassing.

I can't really add anything to this post. We don't need one but the one we have is a joke and doesn't project a professional image in the slightest.

Just remove the current one until we have the money to put up a decent one

Had the scoreboard faced the away fans then they might have moved faster as away fans would be taking the ****. Look at West Brom scoreboard. All the videos getting the home fans going before the game.

You need to double take quickly to see if 0 or 8 minutes left.

Picture the image now in the press if we do a giant killing

    That'll be a great shot

Think of the space it would save on here if it communicated the box office opening times and if you could pay on the gate. :)

I am not a mobile freak who has one in the hand all the time.
As for what the out of date , **** , scoreboard does is nil
It gives false times through digits missing
It is jaded and hard to read
It is just a glorified wheel tappers and shunters board, a joke
We need a new board that gives the club a better image, that can be read.
It would be used for advertising and media input. This to pay for it self over a few years.
It gives everyone the scores and all other information to many fans who do not use mobiles

I ring people who I need to speak to. I don't need a giant board board to remind me we haven't scored

We should get rid of the one we have, whether we replace it or not. It is embarrassing, Ii even saw a non league game where they had a better scoreboard (not difficult I guess!)
As for knowing how long is left, that's all well and good except when it gets to injury time you've no idea unless you keep a check on your own watch, still think they should just have the clock counting up instead of down, that way they can just leave it running after 45 mins.

Doesn`t look good for those that already sponsor games, when its hard to read who they actually are. Will they sponsor us again?

Should imagine it aint that easy to find sponsorship, so lets not piss those off that do. Only takes summat else with the package to not be up to scratch and they could be waving us goodbye. Lets face it the on the pitch stuff aint been good has it.

All depends on what the costs are. I'm sure we'd be up in arms spending loads on a score board when we need players.

It's one of those things that make you look a bit more progressive as a club, they are good for generating an atmosphere if used properly - I'm all for it, get one bought rather than paying a squad players contract for two years
