Your point about all racists being anti immigration is incorrect in my opinion, we all know people that are racist but I don't know anyone that would prevent Indian doctors coming to work here when there's a shortage of British doctors. What racist arguments have UKIP put forward? I'm not sure they are entirely against immigration, it's the amount and ease of immigration that is the issue.

Big difference between them having ***** policies and being classed as some of the things I've seen them accused of. I didn't vote for them myself and wouldn't in the future as I fundamentally disagree with many of their viewpoints. I can, however, see why lots of people are choosing to vote for them. Instead of abusing their supporters, the main parties should be questioning why people are unhappy and look to rectify it. I think UKIP are good for British politics, if nothing more than just to shake the big 3 up a bit and hopefully show them how disillusioned people are with them.

Re: its this simple Pinball.. they vote labour because

I know that wasn't aimed at me but, personally, that is my opinion. The statistics show that immigration is, overall, good for the economy, but apart from anything else I think it enriches our culture hugely. I think this could perhaps be done in conjunction with a move towards a more contributions-based national insurance system - I'm not sure yet whether I agree with that but I consider it to be a reasonable and interesting debate to have anyway. But overall I think immigration over a period of hundreds of years has had a large positive impact on the country, and I'd like to see more of it.

Just my opinion. Not one that I expect many to agree with, and certainly not one that any of the main parties agree with, but there we have it.

Shouldn't the main parties have faith in the conviction of their own views and make the case for what they believe, not pander to what is a minority position of no council's, no MPs and a limited number of councillors?

No they should serve for the best interests of the voters. This 'minority' party has just gained well over 100 seats in councils across the UK from a very small base, I'd say that suggests people aren't happy with the job mainstream politicians are doing.

Hasn't UKIP's percentage of votes gone down? Thought it had.

It might have, but they had 2 council seats last week, now they have 161, that's a 7950% increase.

It's just come on the radio that they got around 17% of the vote in the locals on a c35% turnout. About 6% of the electorate. Looks like they got 17% of the vote on a 34.7% turnout in the 2009 European elections (wiki) but I'm not sure where to find the rough overall percentage figures for previous local elections. Looks roughly the same though.

Fair point. But I don't see their impact being the 'earthquake' that some do.

I think the Green Party did well though.

    Re: hers another sandal wearer

People on the telly saying that chicken tikka masala is now our national dish, that's just multicultural propaganda and Indian food isn't even the best selling ethnic takeaway, that's Chinese food and more fish and chips is sold than curry too.

Like I've said previously I don't even support UKIP. I do like to see new competitors in the market so to speak, it will hopefully drive the top parties to improve themselves if nowt else.

I'd love Greens to do something, they are a big loser from UKIP though I think. Shame they can't get themselves half the coverage that Farage has done.

They will never form a government so we will never find out but what I do know is that the new Labour economic model was a catastrophe. UKIP have tapped into the disillusionment of many voters and the main two parties will have to listen and consider their positions over Europe and immigration because continuing to ignore these issues and the opinions of their voters is going to cost them at the next election. Will I vote UKIP? No, but i applaud the bloody nose they have given the party I will be voting for next year.
