I had the program on today while decorating and heard the comment. I didn't give it another thought. Report here We look like a right pair of woofters So what. as much as i don't like TV I dont think he has said anything wrong, just been guilty of being from a different generation
It's made the news because it is homophobic. It's the world we live in now unfortunately - you can't say anything derogatory about any minor groups I'm afraid.
That must be awful. Why would you want to? (Not that I think what he said was bad, I think Terry thinks the word is a synonym for gay in a non-derogatory way).
Problems is, and I'm not referring to this case in particular, we get to the point where people can't differentiate between what is unacceptable and said in a derogatory manner with the intention to cause offence and what isn't. Take the furore about David Jason's 'racist' joke a few years ago (the Mahatme Coat one) for example. It's going to get to the point where nobody will open their mouth in public just in case. I'm not saying it's right to be saying certain things and using ignorance as a defence, but the trial by media is way over the top sometimes.
Richard Lane, spokesman for gay rights organisation Stonewall, said: 'This kind of language might have been acceptable in 1991 but seems really rather dated in Britain today.' ********
What exactly has he said wrong? He was using a word in a non derogatory way. When will this PC madness end, when will people stand up to the PC brigade and tell them where to bloody go.
